0:16 I am one of the Muhajirun (Emigrant) Companions.

0:21 I am a Hashimi Qurayshi.

0:24 I was known for my eloquence and the sharpness of my retorts.

0:28 No one could stand against me in debate.

0:30 Furthermore, I was a scholar of genealogy.

0:34 I was the most knowledgeable of the Quraysh regarding their lineages and historical days.

0:38 I was one of four people to whom the people would turn to arbitrate their disputes regarding lineage.

0:44 I am the cousin of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, the son of Abu Talib.

0:49 The Prophet, peace be upon him, said to me:

0:53 "O Abu Yazid,

0:55 I love you with two loves:

0:58 A love for your kinship to me,

1:00 And a love for the love Abu Talib had for you."

1:04 Indeed, my father, Abu Talib, loved me very much.

1:09 He would not equate any of his other children with me,

1:12 Let alone anyone else.

1:14 Evidence of this is

1:16 That when the Quraysh faced poverty,

1:19 The Prophet, peace be upon him,

1:22 And my uncle al-'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, came to my father,

1:26 This was before the Prophetic mission,

1:28 And asked him to take charge of some of his children to lighten his burden.

1:33 My father agreed on the condition that they leave me with him,

1:37 And they could take whichever of his other children they wished, besides me.

1:41 So my uncle al-'Abbas took my brother Ja'far, may Allah be pleased with him,

1:45 And the Prophet, peace be upon him, took my brother 'Ali, may Allah be pleased with him.

1:53 I was one of those who inherited from their Muslim relatives who migrated to Medina.

1:59 For I inherited the house of the Prophet, peace be upon him, in Mecca,

2:04 And the houses of the Banu Hashim.

2:06 I was among those from the Banu Hashim responsible for providing water to the pilgrims.

2:11 I was one of the three who organized the registers of stipends (diwan)

2:15 For the Caliph of the Muslims, 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him.

2:20 I organized the people in them according to their tribes and lineages.

2:26 I witnessed the Battle of Badr with the polytheists,

2:29 And some of the Muslims took me captive.

2:32 They tied me and my uncle al-'Abbas together with a single rope,

2:36 So we were called "the two bound together."

2:39 I had no wealth to ransom myself,

2:43 So my uncle al-'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, ransomed me.

2:47 Then Allah the Exalted revealed regarding us His saying:

2:50 "O Prophet,

2:54 Say to whoever is in your hands of the captives,

3:00 “O Prophet! Say unto those captives who are in your hands: If Allah knoweth any good in your hearts He will give you better than that which hath been taken from you, and will forgive you. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.” (8:70)

3:05 If Allah knows [any] good in your hearts, He will give you [something] better than what was taken from you."

3:08 “O Prophet! Say unto those captives who are in your hands: If Allah knoweth any good in your hearts He will give you better than that which hath been taken from you, and will forgive you. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.” (8:70)

3:13 If He knows any good in your hearts, He will give you better.

3:29 I am the eldest of my brothers.

3:31 I am ten years older than Ja'far,

3:35 And twenty years older than 'Ali.

3:38 Yet, I was the last of them to embrace Islam,

3:43 And the last of them to die.

3:44 I embraced Islam after the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah,

3:47 And I migrated to Medina in the first year of the eighth year after the Hijrah.

3:52 I participated in the Battle of Mu'tah,

3:54 And I was among those who stood firm with the Prophet, peace be upon him, at the Battle of Hunayn.

4:01 My death overtook me at the end of the reign of Mu'awiyah, may Allah be pleased with him.
