0:16 I am the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

0:22 I am the third in birth order among his daughters.

0:25 I was born in Makkah six years before the Prophetic mission.

0:30 I embraced Islam alongside my mother, Khadijah, may Allah be pleased with her, when she embraced it.

0:35 I was besieged in the Shi'b with the Banu Hashim when they were besieged.

0:39 I pledged allegiance to my father when the women pledged allegiance to him.

0:43 And when he, peace be upon him, migrated to Madinah,

0:47 He sent Zayd Ibn Harithah, may Allah be pleased with him, to bring us.

0:52 So I migrated with them.

0:54 My father married me to his cousin, 'Utaybah Ibn Abi Lahab.

1:00 When Allah the Exalted revealed in condemnation of Abu Lahab and his wife His words in Surah al-Masad:

1:07 “The power of Abu Lahab will perish, and he will perish.” (111:1)

1:14 “His wealth and gains will not exempt him.” (111:2)

1:20 “He will be plunged in flaming Fire,” (111:3)

1:24 "And his wife, the carrier of firewood,"

1:29 "Around her neck is a rope of twisted fiber."

1:35 At that time, Abu Lahab forced his son 'Utaybah to divorce me.

1:40 He had not yet consummated the marriage with me.

1:43 'Utaybah came to my father, peace be upon him, and said to him:

1:48 "I disbelieve in your religion and I have parted with your daughter."

1:52 "You do not love me, and I do not love you."

1:55 Then he assaulted him with his hand and his tongue.

1:58 Then he left.

2:00 My father invoked a curse upon him, saying:

2:03 "I ask Allah to set upon you a dog from among His dogs."

2:09 Later, 'Utaybah set out in a trade caravan with his companions to the Levant.

2:15 When they were on the road,

2:18 They heard the roar of a lion.

2:20 'Utaybah became terrified.

2:22 His limbs began to tremble.

2:25 They asked him, "What are you afraid of?"

2:28 He said, "Muhammad has invoked a curse upon me,"

2:32 "And his supplication is never rejected."

2:34 They said to him, "Do not worry, we will protect you."

2:39 When they felt reassured that the lion had gone,

2:42 They slept and surrounded 'Utaybah.

2:45 They placed him in their midst.

2:47 Then the lion came.

2:49 It sniffed all of their heads,

2:52 Until it reached 'Utaybah.

2:54 It crushed his head and finished him off.

2:58 In Madinah,

3:00 My father married me to 'Uthman Ibn 'Affan, may Allah be pleased with him,

3:04 After the death of his first wife,

3:06 Who was the sister of the one who is older than me.

3:09 And he, peace be upon him, said:

3:12 "I did not marry 'Uthman to her except by revelation from heaven."

3:17 I remained with him for six years,

3:20 Until my death reached me in the ninth year after the Hijrah.

3:25 I was twenty-seven years old.

3:28 When the news of my death reached my father, peace be upon him,

3:33 He grieved for me.

3:36 Then he said to the women who were washing me:

3:40 "Wash her an odd number of times—three or five,"

3:44 "With water and lotus leaves,"

3:46 "And put camphor, or something of camphor, in the final wash."

3:51 "When you have finished,"

3:53 "Inform me."

3:55 When they washed me, they informed him.

3:58 He gave them his waist-wrapper,

4:00 Which is the garment he, peace be upon him, would tie around his waist.

4:06 And he said, "Shroud her in it."

4:09 Meaning, place it directly against her skin.

4:13 Then he, peace be upon him, prayed over me himself.

4:18 And he sat by my grave with his eyes shedding tears.
