1:01 I returned to the people of Makkah and said to them:

1:05 "I have seen something astonishing from the Companions of Muhammad."

1:09 "By Allah, he does not spit out any phlegm,"

1:13 "but that it falls into the palm of one of them,"

1:16 "who then rubs it onto his face and skin."

1:19 "If he commands them, they hasten to fulfill his command."

1:22 "And if he performs ablution,"

1:24 "they almost fight over the remains of his water."

1:27 "And if he speaks,"

1:29 "they lower their voices in his presence."

1:32 "And they do not stare at him out of reverence for him."

1:36 "O people,"

1:39 "by Allah, I have visited kings."

1:42 "I have visited Caesar, Chosroes, and the Negus."

1:46 "By Allah, I have never seen a king whose companions revere him,"

1:50 "as the Companions of Muhammad revere Muhammad."

1:54 "He has offered you a path of guidance,"

1:58 "so accept it."

2:01 I was with my people in Ta'if when the Prophet, peace be upon him, besieged it.

2:06 After the Battle of Hunayn.

2:09 When the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, departed,

2:13 I followed in his tracks.

2:15 I caught up with him before he reached Madinah.

2:18 I embraced Islam.

2:20 I asked him if I could return to my people,

2:22 to call them to Islam.

2:25 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said to me:

2:29 "They will kill you."

2:31 I said:

2:33 "O Messenger of Allah,"

2:34 "I am beloved and obeyed among them,"

2:38 "and I am dearer to them than their own eyes."

2:42 "Even if they found me sleeping, they would not wake me."

2:46 So he gave me permission.

2:48 I went out to them, calling them to Islam.

2:53 When I reached Ta'if,

2:55 I stood upon a high place,

2:57 and I called them to Islam.

3:00 I openly declared my religion to them.

3:02 They shot arrows at me from every direction.

3:06 An arrow struck me in a vital spot.

3:09 My family carried me to the house,

3:12 and they said to me:

3:14 "What do you think of your blood?"

3:16 I said:

3:17 "It is an honor with which Allah has graced me,"

3:20 "and martyrdom that Allah has brought to me."

3:24 "There is nothing in me but what is in the martyrs who were killed in the cause of Allah,"

3:30 "with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him."

3:33 "Before he departs from you,"

3:36 "bury me with them."

3:40 They used to say that my status among my people

3:43 was like the status of the man from Ya-Sin among his people,

3:46 who called them to Allah and they killed him.

3:49 The Prophet, peace be upon him, mentioned

3:53 that he saw 'Isa ibn Maryam, peace be upon him,

3:57 and I am the person who resembles him most.
