0:01 Pause and reflect on the lives of the Companions, the scholars, and the eminent figures of our history.
0:12 A new challenge: Who am I?
0:16 I am one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
0:22 I belong to the Azd Shanu'a tribe from Yemen.
0:26 From my youth, I loved seeking knowledge.
0:29 I was a healer who treated people and performed ruqyah to cure them of demonic possession.
0:34 Because of that, I had acquired some knowledge of the practices of soothsayers and sorcerers.
0:40 I was a friend of the Prophet, peace be upon him, during the pre-Islamic era.
0:45 I once arrived in Makkah to perform the 'Umrah.
0:51 I heard the disbelievers of Quraysh saying that Muhammad was a madman.
0:56 I was stunned by what I heard and said to myself,
1:00 "If I were to go to this man whom they claim is mad,
1:04 perhaps I could heal him." So I went to him and said,
1:08 "O Muhammad, I perform ruqyah for these spirits,
1:12 and Allah heals whomever He wills at my hands.
1:16 Would you like me to perform ruqyah for you?"
1:19 The Prophet, peace be upon him, replied,
1:22 "Indeed, all praise is due to Allah; we praise Him and seek His aid.
1:27 Whoever Allah guides, none can lead astray,
1:30 and whoever He leaves to stray, none can guide.
1:33 I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner,
1:38 and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger."
1:42 Then, when I heard those words,
1:46 I sat up straight and said,
1:49 "Repeat these words of yours to me."
1:52 He, peace be upon him, repeated them three times.
1:56 I said, "By Allah, I have heard the words of soothsayers,
2:00 I have heard the words of sorcerers,
2:02 and I have heard the words of poets,
2:04 yet I have never heard words like these."
2:08 "Extend your hand so that I may pledge allegiance to you in Islam."
2:12 He extended his hand, and I pledged my allegiance.
2:15 Then the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said to me,
2:19 "And do you pledge on behalf of your people as well?"
2:23 I replied, "Yes, and on behalf of my people."
2:26 So I pledged allegiance to Islam for myself and for my people.
2:30 I returned to my tribe and invited them to Islam,
2:34 and they all embraced it. So, who am I?
