0:16 I am one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

0:22 I am a Qurayshi from the people of Makkah.

0:25 I was born in the same year the Prophet, peace be upon him, was born.

0:30 My mother is Arwa bint al-Harith ibn 'Abd al-Muttalib.

0:34 She is the cousin of the Prophet, peace be upon him.

0:38 I was among the distinguished men of Makkah.

0:41 I was a man of wealth and commerce.

0:44 I embraced Islam on the day of the conquest of Makkah.

0:46 I was known for my intelligence, sagacity, and sound judgment.

0:50 I narrated several hadiths from the Prophet, peace be upon him.

0:55 The Prophet, peace be upon him, praised me before I even embraced Islam.

1:02 He described me as having sagacity and intelligence.

1:05 This occurred when my father was taken prisoner by the Muslims at the Battle of Badr.

1:10 The Quraysh were hesitant to pay the ransom for the prisoners.

1:13 They did not want the Muslims to feel emboldened against them.

1:17 When the Prophet, peace be upon him, saw my father,

1:21 He said, "He has a son in Makkah who is intelligent,"

1:25 "And a wealthy merchant."

1:27 During that time,

1:29 I secretly left Makkah and came to Madinah.

1:33 I ransomed my father for four thousand dirhams.

1:37 When I brought him back to Makkah,

1:39 They blamed me for acting in such haste.

1:42 I told them, "I could not leave my father as a prisoner."

1:47 By doing so, I was the first from Quraysh to ransom a prisoner on the day of Badr.

1:52 Among the proofs of my sagacity:

1:56 During the pre-Islamic era, I feared that some event might occur,

2:00 That would change the position of the Maqam Ibrahim (the Station of Abraham), peace be upon him.

2:03 Within the Sacred Mosque.

2:05 So, as a precaution, I brought some ropes.

2:08 I measured the distance between the Maqam and the wall of the Ka'bah.

2:13 I recorded that measurement on the first rope.

2:16 Then, I measured the distance between the Maqam and the Black Stone.

2:20 I recorded that on the second rope.

2:23 Then, I measured the distance between the Maqam and the well of Zamzam.

2:28 And I recorded it on the third rope.

2:31 I then kept the ropes in a chest inside my house.

2:35 Years passed until a powerful flood struck Makkah,

2:40 In the seventeenth year of the Hijrah.

2:43 It became known as the flood of Umm Nahshal.

2:46 It uprooted the Maqam from its place,

2:48 And cast it far away into the lower part of Makkah.

2:52 It was buried under the sand.

2:54 People could not find it after they had exhausted their search.

2:58 The Caliph of the Muslims, 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, was distressed by this.

3:03 He was deeply troubled.

3:05 Then, a man went out to attend to his needs in the lower part of Makkah,

3:09 And he found the stone.

3:11 He sent word to the people,

3:13 They came and retrieved it, rejoicing.

3:16 They sent word to 'Umar in Madinah.

3:18 He ordered them not to do anything until he arrived.

3:22 He left Madinah to perform 'Umrah,

3:25 Accompanied by the elders of the Muhajirun and the Ansar.

3:28 I went out with them.

3:30 When he arrived at the House,

3:32 He said,

3:33 "I adjure you by Allah, O Muslims,"

3:36 "Who knows the original and exact position of the Maqam before the flood?"

3:41 I stepped forward and said,

3:43 "I do, O Commander of the Faithful."

3:46 "I had measured it and determined its location."

3:49 He ordered me to return it to its place.

3:53 I requested the chest from my house in Makkah,

3:56 And I brought out the ropes before the people.

3:59 I took the measurements of the distances,

4:02 And I placed the Maqam in its original position where it had been.

4:07 'Umar and the Muslims were pleased with that.
