0:16 I am one of the Companions from the youth of the Ansar.

0:22 I witnessed the Second Pledge of al-Aqabah with my father.

0:25 I was among those who attended it, and I was the last of them to pass away.

0:30 I did not participate in the battles of Badr or Uhud.

0:33 My father prevented me from taking part in them.

0:36 This was so that I could look after my nine sisters.

0:39 However, after my father was killed at Uhud,

0:42 I never missed a single battle alongside the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

0:48 I remained in the constant company of the Prophet, peace be upon him.

0:53 I narrated a great deal of knowledge from him.

0:56 I had a study circle in the Prophet’s Mosque,

0:59 where I would teach the people and grant them understanding of their religion.

1:03 I participated with the Muslims in digging the Trench.

1:07 One day, I saw the Prophet, peace be upon him, suffering from severe hunger.

1:13 He had tied two stones against his stomach due to the intensity of his hunger.

1:17 I returned to my wife and said to her,

1:20 "Do you have any food?"

1:23 She brought out a pouch containing a sa' of barley.

1:27 We had nothing else.

1:29 We also had a small sheep.

1:32 I slaughtered the sheep, and my wife ground the barley.

1:36 We prepared a small amount of food.

1:39 Then I went to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,

1:42 and whispered to him, saying,

1:45 "O Messenger of Allah, we have prepared some food for you,

1:49 so come, you and one or two others with you."

1:53 The Prophet, peace be upon him, called out,

1:57 saying, "O people of the Trench,

2:00 come, hurry to the food!"

2:03 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said to me,

2:07 "Do not take your cooking pot off the fire,

2:10 and do not bake your dough until I arrive."

2:14 When the Prophet, peace be upon him, came

2:17 to my house, I brought out the dough for him.

2:20 He spat into it and blessed it.

2:23 Then he went to our cooking pot,

2:25 spat into it, and blessed it.

2:28 The people arrived with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him;

2:32 they were a thousand men.

2:35 I swear by Allah, they ate until they were full.

2:39 Then they departed,

2:41 yet our pot was as full as it had been,

2:44 and our dough was still being baked just as it was.

2:47 We were returning from the Battle of Dhat al-Riqa'

2:51 to Medina with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.

2:55 I was riding a weak camel of mine

2:58 that had exhausted me during the journey.

3:01 I kept falling behind the caravan.

3:04 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, caught up with me

3:07 and asked, "What is the matter with you?"

3:10 I said, "O Messenger of Allah,

3:13 this camel of mine has slowed me down."

3:16 He said, "Make it kneel," so I made it kneel.

3:19 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, also made his mount kneel.

3:23 Then he said, "Give me that stick from your hand."

3:26 I did so.

3:29 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, took it

3:32 and prodded the camel with it a few times.

3:35 He then prayed for me.

3:38 Then he said, "Ride."

3:41 So I rode,

3:44 and my camel moved at a pace it had never moved before.

3:47 Then he, peace be upon him, said to me,

3:50 "It is yours."

3:53 I said, "No, rather it is yours, O Messenger of Allah."

3:56 He said, "No, sell it to me."

3:59 I said, "No, it is yours."

4:02 He said, "No, sell it to me for an uqiyah of gold."

4:05 So I sold the camel to him,

4:08 on the condition that I would deliver it to him in Medina

4:11 when we arrived.

4:14 When we reached Medina, I brought the camel to him.

4:18 He then said, "Do you think I would take

4:21 your camel? Take your camel and your money;

4:24 they are both yours."

4:27 The camel remained with me during the time of the Prophet, peace be upon him,

4:30 and the time of Abu Bakr and Umar.

4:33 When it became old and weak, I brought it to Umar.

4:36 He recognized its story,

4:39 and said, "Place it among the camels of the zakat,"

4:42 and "in the best of pastures."

4:45 I kept it there until the camel died.

4:48 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,

4:52 had sought forgiveness for me on the night of

4:55 this camel twenty-five times.
