0:16 I am one of the righteous Companions and the orator of the Ansar.

0:24 I believed in Allah alone and followed the Prophet, peace be upon him.

0:30 I witnessed all the battles alongside him, except for Badr.

0:35 I was eloquent and articulate in my speech.

0:38 Allah granted me a powerful voice.

0:41 Thus, I became the orator of the Prophet, peace be upon him.

0:45 I would speak in his presence.

0:47 And I would respond to the delegations when they boasted in his assembly.

0:52 The Prophet, peace be upon him, said of me:

0:56 "What an excellent man."

0:57 And he gave me the glad tidings of Paradise.

1:00 The delegation of the tribe of Banu Tamim came to Medina.

1:05 When they entered the mosque,

1:07 They called out to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,

1:10 From behind his private chambers.

1:12 They said, "Come out to us, O Muhammad!"

1:17 So he went out to them.

1:19 They said, "O Muhammad, we have come to compete with you in boasting."

1:24 "So grant permission to our poet and our orator."

1:27 He said, "I have granted permission to your orator."

1:31 "Let him stand."

1:32 So he stood and boasted.

1:34 He delivered a speech to the people,

1:36 Spoke well, and then sat down.

1:39 Then the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said to me:

1:44 "Stand and respond."

1:46 So I stood.

1:47 I delivered a speech in the presence of the Prophet, peace be upon him, and the people.

1:52 I exalted the status of the Prophet, peace be upon him, and the Muslims.

1:58 Then their poet stood,

2:00 And recited verses in which he boasted.

2:03 The Prophet, peace be upon him, said:

2:07 "Stand, O Hassan, and respond."

2:10 So Hassan ibn Thabit, may Allah be pleased with him, stood and responded.

2:15 Then the leader of the delegation said:

2:18 "By Allah, their orator is more eloquent than our orator,"

2:22 "And their poet is a better poet than our poet."

2:25 So they embraced Islam.

2:27 And the Prophet, peace be upon him, gave them generous rewards.

2:32 When there was revealed to the Prophet, peace be upon him,

2:36 The saying of the Almighty:

2:37 ﴾O you who have believed, do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet﴿

2:41 “O ye who believe! Lift not up your voices above the voice of the Prophet, nor shout when speaking to him as ye shout one to another, lest your works be rendered vain while ye perceive not.” (49:2)

2:53 “O ye who believe! Lift not up your voices above the voice of the Prophet, nor shout when speaking to him as ye shout one to another, lest your works be rendered vain while ye perceive not.” (49:2)

2:59 “O ye who believe! Lift not up your voices above the voice of the Prophet, nor shout when speaking to him as ye shout one to another, lest your works be rendered vain while ye perceive not.” (49:2)

3:04 ﴾Lest your deeds become worthless while you perceive not.﴿

3:11 I feared for myself that I might be among those whose deeds had become worthless,

3:15 Because of my loud voice in the presence of the Prophet, peace be upon him.

3:21 So I was overcome with grief.

3:23 I sat in my house weeping.

3:26 The Prophet, peace be upon him, missed me.

3:30 He asked about me through my neighbor, Sa'd ibn Mu'adh, may Allah be pleased with him.

3:35 So Sa'd came to me.

3:37 I said to him,

3:38 "This verse has been revealed in Surah al-Hujurat,"

3:43 "And you know that I am the loudest of you in voice before the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him."

3:50 "So I am among the people of the Fire."

3:53 Sa'd mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.

3:59 He, peace be upon him, said:

4:02 "Nay, he is among the people of Paradise."

4:05 When Sa'd returned to me and gave me the glad tidings of Paradise,

4:09 I came quickly to the Prophet, peace be upon him.

4:14 When I met him, he said to me:

4:17 "Are you not content to live a life of hardship,"

4:20 "To be killed as a martyr,"

4:22 "And to enter Paradise?"

4:25 I said,

4:26 "Yes, I am content."

4:29 On the day of al-Yamamah,

4:31 I was with Khalid ibn al-Walid, may Allah be pleased with him.

4:35 We encountered great intensity from the apostates,

4:38 To the point that the Muslims were pushed back and were on the verge of defeat.

4:42 I became angry and said,

4:45 "This is not how we used to fight alongside the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him!"

4:51 So I fought the people until I was killed.

4:54 While I was lying on the ground,

4:57 A man from the Muslims came to me.

5:00 He looked at my armor,

5:02 And it was a precious piece of armor.

5:04 He took it and hid it among his belongings.

5:08 So I came to one of my companions in his dream and said to him:

5:13 "I am entrusting you with a will,"

5:15 "So do not neglect my will."

5:18 "When you wake from your sleep,"

5:20 "Go to Khalid ibn al-Walid,"

5:22 "And tell him,"

5:24 "That so-and-so from the Muslims has taken my armor,"

5:28 "And placed it in his belongings in such-and-such a place,"

5:32 "So let him recover it from him."

5:34 "And when you reach Medina,"

5:37 "Go to the Caliph Abu Bakr,"

5:39 "And tell him,"

5:41 "That I have such-and-such a debt,"

5:44 "So let him sell my armor,"

5:46 "And pay off the debt."

5:48 "And tell him,"

5:49 "That I have freed my slave, so-and-so."

5:53 The man did what I had instructed him to do.

5:56 Khalid recovered my armor,

5:58 And Abu Bakr fulfilled my will.

6:01 No one else is known to have had their will executed after their death,

6:04 And had their will honored, except for me.

6:08 So, who am I?
