0:16 I am one of the female Companions.

0:22 I am the wet nurse of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

0:26 I arrived in Makkah among a group of women from the tribe of Banu Sa'd ibn Bakr.

0:31 We were seeking infants to nurse during a year of drought.

0:34 I arrived riding a donkey of mine.

0:37 It had exhausted the caravan with its slow pace.

0:40 With me were my husband, our young son, and our she-camel.

0:44 By Allah, we could not sleep at night.

0:46 Because of our son’s constant crying.

0:49 For my breasts did not provide him with enough milk to satisfy him.

0:52 Nor did our she-camel have enough to nourish him.

0:55 We arrived in Makkah.

0:58 By Allah, there was not a single woman among us.

1:01 To whom the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, was not offered.

1:06 But when we were told that he was an orphan.

1:09 We turned away from him, saying:

1:11 "What could his mother possibly do for us?"

1:15 My companions returned with their nursing infants.

1:18 But I had not secured an infant.

1:21 So I said to my husband:

1:23 "I might return to that orphan and take him."

1:27 "For I hope not to return without an infant."

1:31 He replied, "There is no harm in that, if you wish."

1:35 So I returned to him and took him.

1:38 By Allah, no sooner had I taken him.

1:42 And brought him to my resting place.

1:44 And placed him in my lap.

1:46 Than he turned to my breasts and drank as much milk as he desired.

1:50 He and his brother drank until they were satisfied.

1:54 My husband went to our she-camel.

1:57 And found her udders full of milk.

1:59 He milked her.

2:00 Then he drank, and I drank, until we were satisfied.

2:04 We spent the best of nights.

2:07 When morning came, my husband said to me:

2:10 "By Allah, I see that you have taken a blessed soul."

2:15 Then we set off, returning to our desert home.

2:19 By Allah, my donkey outpaced the rest of the caravan.

2:23 To the point that my companions would say:

2:26 "Woe to you, O daughter of Abu Dhu'ayb!"

2:29 "Is this the same donkey you set out with us on?"

2:33 I would reply, "Yes."

2:35 "By Allah, it is indeed the same one."

2:37 We arrived at the land of Banu Sa'd.

2:41 I knew of no land on earth more barren than it.

2:46 Yet my sheep would go out to graze.

2:49 And return in the evening full and rich with milk.

2:52 We would milk from them whatever we wished.

2:56 While the people's sheep would not yield a single drop.

2:59 This was due to the blessing of the Prophet, peace be upon him.

3:04 After the Battle of Hunayn and Ta'if.

3:07 The Prophet, peace be upon him, stayed.

3:10 At al-Ji'ranah, distributing the spoils of war.

3:13 I approached him.

3:15 When I drew near to him.

3:17 He welcomed me and spread his cloak for me.

3:20 So I sat upon it.

3:22 The people asked:

3:24 "Who is this woman whom the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, is honoring?"

3:29 Some of them answered, saying:

3:32 "This is his mother who nursed him."

3:35 So, who am I?
