0:31 The Prophet, peace be upon him, welcomed us there.

0:36 The Prophet, peace be upon him, gave me the choice to be counted among the Muhajirun or the Ansar.

0:42 I chose the Ansar.

0:45 People used to ask the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, about goodness.

0:50 But I used to ask him about evil.

0:53 For fear that it might overtake me.

0:55 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, confided in me the names of the hypocrites.

1:02 I kept them secret and told no one about them.

1:06 I memorized from him the hadiths regarding the tribulations that would befall the Ummah until the Day of Resurrection.

1:14 My father and I missed the Battle of Badr.

1:17 Nothing prevented us from witnessing it.

1:19 Except that we had set out on a journey.

1:22 The disbelievers of Quraysh intercepted us.

1:25 They said, "You intend to join Muhammad."

1:29 We replied, "We intend nothing but to go to Medina."

1:33 They took a pledge from us that we would head straight to Medina.

1:37 And that we would not fight alongside him.

1:40 When we reached Medina.

1:42 We informed the Prophet, peace be upon him, of that.

1:46 He commanded us to stay back.

1:48 And said, "We shall fulfill our pledge to them and seek the help of Allah against them."

1:54 Later, we participated in the Battle of Uhud.

1:57 And we fought alongside the Prophet, peace be upon him, against his disbelieving enemies.

2:04 After the setback that befell the Muslims.

2:08 Confusion spread among the people.

2:11 They struck my father with their swords, thinking he was with the polytheists.

2:16 While I was crying out to them:

2:18 "My father! My father! It is my father!"

2:21 But the decree of Allah was swifter.

2:25 My father was killed by the swords of the Muslims.

2:28 So I said to them:

2:30 "May Allah forgive you."

2:32 "For He is the Most Merciful of the merciful."

2:35 When the Prophet, peace be upon him, learned of that.

2:39 He gave me the blood money for my father.

2:41 But I did not take it for myself.

2:43 I gave it as charity to the Muslims.

2:47 This increased my status and virtue in the eyes of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and the Muslims.

2:56 One day, Umar Ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, asked me.

3:00 And pressed me insistently:

3:02 "Did the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, count me among the hypocrites?"

3:07 I replied, "No."

3:09 "And I will not vouch for anyone after you."

3:12 Then he asked me, "Is there any hypocrite among my governors?"

3:17 I said, "Yes, one."

3:20 He asked, "Who is he?"

3:22 I said, "I will not name him to you."

3:25 Shortly after, Umar dismissed him.

3:27 As if he had been guided to him.

3:31 And it was the habit of Umar, may Allah be pleased with him.

3:33 Whenever a man died, he would ask about me.

3:36 If I was present for the funeral prayer.

3:38 He would pray over him.

3:40 But if I was not present for the prayer.

3:42 Umar would not attend.

3:44 I witnessed the fighting at the Battle of Nahavand.

3:49 When al-Nu'man Ibn Muqarrin, may Allah be pleased with him, the commander of that army, was killed.

3:55 I took up the banner.

3:57 And the conquest of Hamadan took place.

3:59 And al-Rayy, and the victory was at my hands.

4:03 I witnessed the conquest of al-Jazira.

4:05 And I settled in Nusaybin.

4:07 And I married there.

4:09 I participated in the conquest of Armenia and Azerbaijan with the people of Iraq.

4:14 I was alarmed when I saw the Muslims differing in their recitation of the Qur'an.

4:20 So I came to the Caliph Uthman Ibn Affan, may Allah be pleased with him, in Medina.

4:25 And I said to him:

4:27 "Save the Ummah before they differ regarding the Qur'an."

4:31 So Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, ordered the compilation of the Mushaf.
