0:16 I am a female Companion, one of the noble women of the Quraysh.

0:23 I am one of the Arab women who held great renown both before and after the advent of Islam.

0:29 I was a woman of chivalry, pride, sound judgment, and intellect.

0:35 My husband was a leader of the Quraysh.

0:37 My son was a king among the kings of Islam.

0:40 And he was the founder of the Umayyad dynasty.

0:43 My conversion to Islam was delayed until the year of the Conquest of Makkah.

0:47 At the Battle of Badr, I lost my father, my brother, and my uncle.

0:52 For they were all killed in that battle.

0:55 Consequently, my hostility toward the Muslims intensified.

0:58 I began to circulate among the gatherings and clubs of the Quraysh.

1:02 Fanning the flames of vengeance.

1:04 And igniting the fuse of war within their souls.

1:07 When I heard the news that Zaynab, the daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), was preparing.

1:13 To depart and join her father.

1:16 I went to her and said:

1:18 "O daughter of Muhammad!"

1:20 "I have heard that you wish to join your father."

1:24 "O cousin,"

1:26 "If you are in need of any provisions,"

1:29 "That might assist you on your journey,"

1:31 "Or wealth to help you reach your father,"

1:35 "Then I have what you need."

1:37 "Do not be shy with me."

1:39 "For what occurs between men does not enter into the affairs of women."

1:44 Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) would later recount this of me, saying:

1:50 "By Allah, I do not think she said that except to actually do it."

1:55 On the day Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) departed,

1:58 Men from the Quraysh intercepted her.

2:01 Intending to force her to return.

2:03 She fell from her camel, and she was pregnant.

2:07 She began to bleed.

2:09 When I heard of this,

2:11 I rushed out to her and said to my people:

2:15 "You are a cowardly lot!"

2:16 "Where was your courage on the day of Badr?"

2:20 I stood between them and Zaynab.

2:23 I embraced her.

2:25 I wiped away what had afflicted her.

2:27 And I tended to her needs.

2:29 Until she resumed her journey to her father in safety and security.

2:34 Despite my intense hatred for her father,

2:37 And for the Muslims at that time,

2:39 That did not prevent me from,

2:42 Helping people and fulfilling their needs.

2:45 On the day of the Conquest of Makkah,

2:48 The Prophet (peace be upon him) declared my blood to be shed.

2:52 This was because of what I had done at the Battle of Uhud,

2:55 By mutilating the bodies of the slain Muslims.

2:58 Yet I came to him with some other women.

3:00 I declared my Islam before him.

3:03 And he pardoned me.

3:05 When the Prophet (peace be upon him) finished taking the pledge from the men,

3:10 He took the pledge from the women without shaking hands.

3:13 We pledged, and he took our oath,

3:16 That we would not associate anything with Allah,

3:18 Nor steal, nor commit adultery.

3:21 I said, expressing my astonishment:

3:23 "Does a free woman commit adultery?"

3:25 He took our pledge that we would not kill our children.

3:29 I said, "We raised them when they were small,"

3:33 "And you killed them when they were grown."

3:35 Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) laughed,

3:38 Until he fell onto his back.

3:40 And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) smiled.

3:45 When I embraced Islam and gave my pledge,

3:48 I returned to my house.

3:50 I began to break the idols I had.

3:53 While saying:

3:55 "I was truly deluded by you."

3:58 I gifted two young goats to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).

4:03 And I apologized to him for the low yield of my sheep.

4:07 He prayed for blessing in my sheep.

4:10 And they multiplied.

4:11 I used to give charity from them and say:

4:14 "This is from the blessing of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)."
