0:16 I am one of the Mothers of the Believers.

0:21 I am the last wife of the noble Messenger, peace be upon him.

0:27 My name was Barrah.

0:29 But the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, changed it.

0:33 I am the maternal aunt of ‘Abdullah Ibn ‘Abbas.

0:36 And of Khalid Ibn al-Walid, may Allah be pleased with them both.

0:40 The Prophet, peace be upon him, sent Ja‘far Ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, to propose to me on his behalf.

0:48 The news reached me while I was upon my camel.

0:52 I exclaimed, "The camel and all that is upon it belong to Allah and His Messenger."

0:57 So Allah the Exalted revealed His saying:

1:00 “O Prophet! Lo! We have made lawful unto thee thy wives unto whom thou hast paid their dowries, and those whom thy right hand possesseth of those whom Allah hath given thee as spoils of war, and the daughters of thine uncle on the father's side and the daughters of thine aunts on the father's side, and the daughters of thine uncle on the mother's side and the daughters of thine aunts on the mother's side who emigrated with thee, and a believing woman if she give herself unto the Prophet and the Prophet desire to ask her in marriage - a privilege for thee only, not for the (rest of) believers - We are Aware of that which We enjoined upon them concerning their wives and those whom their right hands possess - that thou mayst be free from blame, for Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.” (33:50)

1:05 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, proposed to me during the ‘Umrat al-Qada’.

1:11 When he finished his ‘Umrah, he stayed in Makkah for three days.

1:16 Suhayl Ibn ‘Amr came to him with a group of the people of Makkah.

1:20 They said, "O Muhammad, leave us."

1:24 "Today is the last of your allotted time."

1:27 It was among the conditions of the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah.

1:30 That the Prophet, peace be upon him, and the Muslims with him would perform ‘Umrah the following year.

1:36 And that they would stay in Makkah for three days.

1:39 The Prophet, peace be upon him, said:

1:42 "Let me consummate my marriage and prepare a meal for you."

1:47 They replied, "We have no need of your food, so leave us."

1:53 So the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, departed from Makkah.

1:58 On the way, he, peace be upon him, consummated the marriage with me.

2:02 He was in a state of non-ihram at Sarif, a place near Makkah.

2:07 He provided a wedding feast for the people consisting of more than one sheep.

2:11 My dowry was four hundred dirhams.

2:14 My nephew, ‘Abdullah Ibn ‘Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both,

2:20 Would sometimes spend the night at my home in the house of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.

2:25 He would acquire knowledge, etiquette, and character.

2:29 And spread it among the Muslims.

2:32 Among those accounts is his statement:

2:34 "I spent a night at my aunt’s house."

2:37 "The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, was with her on her night."

2:43 "The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, stood to pray during the night."

2:48 "I stood to his left."

2:50 "He took hold of my hair."

2:52 "And placed me to his right."

2:54 "Whenever I would doze off,"

2:56 "He would take hold of my earlobe."

2:59 "He prayed eleven rak‘ahs."

3:02 "Then he sat wrapped in his garment."

3:03 "Until I could hear him breathing while he rested."

3:07 "When the dawn became clear to him,"

3:10 "He prayed two light rak‘ahs."

3:13 In the year 51 AH,

3:17 I went out for Hajj.

3:19 On my way back,

3:21 My time of death overtook me while I was at Sarif.

3:24 In the very place where the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, had married me.

3:30 I was buried in the spot of the canopy where he had consummated the marriage with me.

3:35 My nephew, ‘Abdullah Ibn ‘Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, led my funeral prayer.

3:41 ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, said, describing me:

3:45 "Indeed, she was among the most God-fearing of us,"

3:49 "And the most diligent in maintaining ties of kinship."
