0:25 I was the envoy of the Banu Sa'd and their leader.

0:29 I was known as the best of the Bedouins who came as an envoy to the Prophet, peace be upon him.

0:37 I was a sturdy man.

0:39 I wore my hair in two braids.

0:42 I arrived as an envoy to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.

0:48 I tethered my camel at the door of the mosque.

0:51 Then I hobbled it.

0:53 Then I entered the mosque, where the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, was sitting with his Companions.

1:00 I approached them and said:

1:03 "Which of you is the son of 'Abd al-Muttalib?"

1:06 The Prophet, peace be upon him, replied:

1:09 "I am the son of 'Abd al-Muttalib."

1:12 I said:

1:13 "O son of 'Abd al-Muttalib,

1:15 I am going to ask you some questions and I will be blunt in my questioning,

1:19 so do not take offense."

1:22 He said:

1:23 "I will not take offense,

1:25 so ask whatever you wish."

1:28 I said:

1:29 "I adjure you by Allah, your God,

1:31 and the God of those before you,

1:33 and the God of those who will come after you:

1:37 Has Allah sent you to us as a Messenger?"

1:42 The Prophet, peace be upon him, replied:

1:45 "By Allah, yes."

1:47 I said:

1:48 "I adjure you by Allah, your God,

1:51 and the God of those before you,

1:53 and the God of those who will come after you:

1:57 Has Allah commanded you to order us

2:00 to worship Him alone, associating nothing with Him,

2:04 and to abandon these idols

2:06 that our forefathers

2:08 used to worship alongside Him?"

2:10 He said:

2:11 "By Allah, yes."

2:13 I said:

2:14 "I adjure you by Allah, your God,

2:17 and the God of those before you,

2:19 and the God of those who will come after you:

2:23 Has Allah commanded you

2:25 to perform these five prayers?"

2:28 He said:

2:29 "By Allah, yes."

2:32 Then I began to mention the obligatory duties of Islam, one by one:

2:36 the zakat, fasting, the Hajj,

2:39 and all the laws of Islam,

2:42 adjuring him regarding each duty

2:45 just as I had adjured him regarding the ones before it.

2:48 When I had finished, I said:

2:51 "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah,

2:55 and I bear witness that you are the Messenger of Allah.

2:58 I will perform these obligatory duties

3:01 and avoid what you have forbidden me from.

3:04 I will neither add to them nor subtract from them."

3:07 Then I turned back toward my camel.

3:12 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said:

3:16 "If the man with the two braids is truthful,

3:19 he will enter Paradise."

3:21 Then I went to my people,

3:23 and they gathered around me.

3:25 The first thing I said to them was:

3:29 "Woe to Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza!"

3:32 They said:

3:33 "What are you saying?

3:35 Beware of leprosy and vitiligo,

3:38 beware of madness!"

3:41 I said:

3:42 "Woe to you!

3:43 By Allah, they are merely two idols that can neither harm nor benefit.

3:49 Allah has sent a Messenger

3:51 and revealed to him a Book,

3:53 through which He saves you from the state you are in.

3:57 I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner,

4:03 and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.

4:07 I have come to you from him with what he has commanded you to do and what he has forbidden you from."

4:13 I began to tell them what the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, had taught me.

4:19 By Allah, before that day ended,

4:22 there was not a single man or woman in my tribe who had not become a Muslim.

4:28 So, who am I?
