0:22 My father was the disciple (Hawari) of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

0:26 my mother was "She of the Two Waistbands" (Dhat an-Nitaqayn),

0:29 and my maternal aunt was the Mother of the Believers.

0:32 I was the very first child born to the Emigrants (Muhajirun) in Medina.

0:37 Upon my birth, the Muslims rejoiced and proclaimed the Takbir,

0:41 so much so that Medina shook with their chants of "Allahu Akbar."

0:45 I lived during the lifetime of the Prophet (peace be upon him)

0:50 for eight years and four months.

0:54 I used to visit him frequently,

0:57 as I regularly went to the home of my aunt 'A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her.

1:03 One day, I came to him, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, while he was undergoing cupping.

1:09 When he finished, he told me, "Take this blood

1:14 and dispose of it where no one can see you."

1:18 But when I left his presence, I drank the blood.

1:22 When I returned, he asked, "What did you do with the blood?"

1:26 I replied, "I took it to the most hidden place I could find

1:30 and put it there."

1:32 He said, "Perhaps you drank it?"

1:35 I replied, "Yes."

1:37 He said, "Woe to the people because of you,

1:41 and woe to you because of the people!"

1:46 My father instructed me when I was just seven years old

1:49 to pledge allegiance to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

1:53 So I came to him,

1:55 and when he saw me approaching, he smiled, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

2:00 and accepted my pledge of allegiance.

2:02 I did not participate in battles with him due to my young age,

2:06 but during the reigns of the Caliphs after him,

2:10 I was the premier knight of my era.

2:12 I had renowned, unforgettable feats

2:14 recorded by history.

2:16 Among them was what took place during the conquest of North Africa,

2:20 when the Berber commander attacked us

2:23 with an army of one hundred and twenty thousand,

2:25 surrounding us while we were merely twenty thousand.

2:29 Our commander was 'Abdullah Ibn Abi as-Sarh, may Allah be pleased with him,

2:33 and our situation grew exceedingly dire.

2:36 While we were in that state,

2:38 I spotted the Berber commander behind his troops,

2:42 mounted on a gray steed,

2:44 accompanied by two slave-girls shading him with peacock feathers,

2:49 with open ground between him and his army.

2:53 So I went to our commander, Ibn Abi as-Sarh,

2:56 and asked his permission to launch an assault against their leader.

3:00 He granted me permission and called upon the men to support me.

3:03 I chose thirty horsemen,

3:06 and said to the rest of the army,

3:08 "Hold your battle lines."

3:11 I charged forward, cutting through the enemy ranks,

3:14 and said to those with me,

3:16 "Cover my back!"

3:18 I pierced right through their ranks toward the Berber commander

3:21 and emerged before him resolutely.

3:24 Neither he nor his companions suspected anything

3:26 except that I was an envoy sent to him.

3:29 When I drew close to him,

3:31 he recognized death in my face.

3:33 He leapt onto his horse to flee,

3:36 but I caught up with him and struck him down,

3:39 and he fell dead.

3:41 I then severed his head,

3:43 hoisted it upon my spear, and proclaimed the Takbir.

3:46 The Muslims then charged upon the enemy,

3:49 who fell into complete disarray.

3:51 Allah gave us absolute mastery over their backs,

3:53 and we routed them decisively,

3:56 as Allah decreed victory for the believers.

3:59 Along with my renowned bravery,

4:03 I was equally known for my knowledge and devotion in worship.

4:06 I spent the nights standing in prayer,

4:09 the days fasting,

4:11 and was constant as a dove in the mosque.

4:13 There was never an avenue of worship

4:17 that proved too difficult for people

4:19 except that I undertook it.

4:21 Once, a flash flood arrived

4:23 and filled the area around the Ka'bah,

4:25 causing people to halt the Tawaf.

4:28 So I performed Tawaf around the House by swimming!
