0:16 I am one of the noble Companions.

0:21 I am a leader among the leaders of the Ansar.

0:24 And a man of honor among their elite.

0:27 I embraced Islam when I was already an old man.

0:30 Thus, I was the last of the Ansar to accept Islam.

0:33 The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, appointed me as the leader of my people, the Banu Salamah.

0:39 I was known for my generosity, nobility, and my love for sacrifice and giving.

0:44 Whenever a needy person came to me,

0:47 I would give him my wealth and say to him,

0:50 "Take it, for it will return to me as a reward."

0:54 I had a severe limp in my leg.

0:58 When the Muslims set out for Badr,

1:01 I wanted to go with them,

1:03 But my sons prevented me because of my limp and my advanced age.

1:07 So, I missed the battle of Badr.

1:10 I said to my sons,

1:12 "You have kept me from Paradise on the day of Badr."

1:15 "By Allah, if I survive, I shall surely enter Paradise."

1:19 When the day of Uhud arrived,

1:22 My sons wanted to hold me back again.

1:25 They said, "We are your sons,

1:28 We will stand with the Prophet, peace be upon him."

1:32 I replied, "How strange!

1:34 People are going to Paradise,

1:37 And I am to sit in my place?"

1:39 So I went to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,

1:43 And I said to him,

1:44 "O Messenger of Allah,

1:46 My sons want to hold me back

1:49 From going out with you for Jihad.

1:52 By Allah, I truly hope

1:54 That I will walk with this limp of mine in Paradise."

1:58 The Prophet, peace be upon him, turned

2:02 To my sons and said to them,

2:05 "Let him be, perhaps Allah will grant him martyrdom."

2:10 So I took up my weapon,

2:12 And I went out, happy and joyful.

2:15 I prayed to Allah, saying,

2:17 "O Allah, grant me martyrdom,

2:20 And do not send me back to my family."

2:23 On the battlefield,

2:25 I heard the Prophet, peace be upon him,

2:28 Saying,

2:30 "Rise to a Paradise as wide as the heavens and the earth,

2:34 Prepared for the righteous."

2:37 I stood up, limping,

2:39 And I said,

2:40 "By Allah, I shall surely walk with this limp of mine in Paradise."

2:45 I advanced toward the polytheists,

2:47 Accompanied by my son, Khallad,

2:50 And we fought until we were killed.

2:53 The Prophet, peace be upon him, passed by me

2:56 After the battle,

2:58 And said,

3:00 "By Allah, it is as if I am looking at you

3:02 Walking with your leg in Paradise,

3:05 And it is perfectly sound."

3:07 After the battle ended,

3:09 The Companions began burying the martyrs.

3:12 They would gather two or three men

3:15 In a single grave.

3:17 The Prophet, peace be upon him, ordered

3:20 That I and 'Abdullah Ibn Haram,

3:24 May Allah be pleased with him,

3:25 Be buried in one grave.

3:27 He said,

3:28 "Look at these two,

3:30 Place them in one grave,

3:33 For they were close friends in this world."

3:38 Our grave was known as the Grave of the Two Brothers.

3:42 In the year 49 AH,

3:46 A severe flood struck the site of the graves of the martyrs of Uhud,

3:51 Damaging them.

3:53 They exhumed our graves to relocate us,

3:57 And they found our bodies unchanged,

4:00 As if we had died only yesterday.

4:03 My hand was over the site of my wound,

4:05 For I had been buried with my hand on my injury.

4:09 When they lifted me,

4:11 My hand moved away from the wound,

4:14 And blood flowed out.

4:16 They returned my hand to its place,

4:19 And it remained as it was.

4:21 Between the time of our martyrdom

4:23 And this incident of moving the grave,

4:26 There were 46 years.
