0:16 I am one of the senior Companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.

0:23 I embraced Islam early on in Makkah.

0:26 Then, I migrated to Abyssinia during the second migration.

0:30 Later, I joined the Prophet, peace be upon him, in Madinah.

0:35 I fought alongside him in his military campaigns.

0:37 I was proficient in reading and writing.

0:40 I was one of the scribes of the revelation.

0:43 The Prophet, peace be upon him, entrusted me with a task.

0:46 He sent me to bring his wife, Umm Habibah, may Allah be pleased with her, from the land of Abyssinia.

0:52 Towards the end of his life, he sent me with a message to the King of Egypt.

0:57 The Prophet, peace be upon him, passed away while I was in Egypt.

1:03 I loved the Prophet, peace be upon him, dearly.

1:06 I prioritized him over my own self.

1:09 One day, Al-Shifa' bint 'Abdullah entered our home.

1:14 She was my mother-in-law.

1:16 The time for prayer had arrived.

1:18 She found me at home.

1:21 She began to reproach me, saying:

1:24 "The prayer time has come, and you are still here?"

1:27 I said, "O aunt, do not blame me."

1:31 "I only had two garments."

1:33 "I would wrap myself in one and wear the other."

1:36 "The Prophet, peace be upon him, borrowed one of them from me to go out for prayer."

1:43 "So I gave him my outer garment."

1:45 "And I remained here."

1:47 I attended the military campaigns of the Prophet, peace be upon him.

1:53 Then, I participated in the wars against the apostates.

1:56 I conquered various lands during the caliphates of Abu Bakr and 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both.

2:02 When Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, intended to invade the Roman territories,

2:07 I went to him and asked him about it.

2:10 Abu Bakr said:

2:12 "Yes, I have been contemplating that."

2:15 "I have not disclosed it to anyone."

2:18 "How did you know about it?"

2:21 "You must have asked me about it for a reason."

2:25 I said, "Indeed, O Caliph of the Messenger of Allah."

2:29 I then recounted to him a vision I had seen in my sleep.

2:34 Its interpretation was the glad tidings of the conquest of the Levant (al-Sham).

2:39 In addition to the news of Abu Bakr's, may Allah be pleased with him, passing,

2:43 as his time was drawing near.

2:45 I then asked him to let me participate in the invasion of the Roman territories.

2:49 He granted me permission.

2:51 He appointed me as one of the commanders of the armies in the conquest of the Levant.

2:55 I conquered all of Jordan by force, except for Tiberias.

3:00 Its people made a peace treaty with me.

3:03 This was done under the instruction of Abu 'Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah, may Allah be pleased with him.

3:08 Then, when 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, assumed the caliphate,

3:14 he removed me from the leadership of the army.

3:17 I said to him, "O Commander of the Faithful, have I become incapable or have I betrayed the trust?"

3:23 He replied, "You have neither become incapable nor have you betrayed the trust."

3:27 I asked, "Then why did you remove me?"

3:30 He said, "I felt hesitant to appoint you while I found someone more capable than you."

3:36 I said, "Then clear my name before the people, O Commander of the Faithful."

3:41 He said, "Yes, I will do so."

3:44 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, stood up.

3:46 He cleared my name before the people.

3:48 And he appointed me over regions in the Levant.

3:53 'Amr ibn al-'As, may Allah be pleased with him, delivered a sermon.

3:56 When the plague spread in the Levant,

3:59 he said, "This plague is a scourge."

4:03 "So disperse into these mountain passes and these valleys."

4:08 When that reached me,

4:10 I said, "Rather, it is the mercy of your Lord."

4:14 "And the supplication of your Prophet."

4:16 "And the death of the righteous before you."

4:19 "So gather together and do not disperse from it."

4:22 This reached 'Amr ibn al-'As, may Allah be pleased with him.

4:26 He said, "He has spoken the truth."

4:29 Then, my death came during the Plague of 'Amwas.

4:33 Where I and Abu 'Ubaydah ibn al-Jarrah, may Allah be pleased with him, were afflicted with the plague on the same day.
