0:28 I embraced Islam out of a sincere desire for it.

0:31 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, honored me.

0:35 He gave to me as kings give.

0:38 And he spoke well of me.

0:40 While we were in Hadhramaut,

0:44 news reached us of the emergence of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

0:49 So I set out to him as a delegate on behalf of my people,

0:53 until I arrived in Medina.

0:55 I met his Companions before I met him.

0:58 They said to me,

1:00 "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, gave us glad tidings of you

1:04 three days before you arrived among us."

1:08 Then I met him, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

1:12 He welcomed me and brought my seat close to him.

1:15 He spread out his cloak for me,

1:18 and had me sit upon it.

1:20 Then he called the people, and they gathered around him.

1:23 Then he ascended the pulpit,

1:25 and had me ascend with him, and he introduced me.

1:28 Then he praised Allah and extolled Him.

1:31 Then he said,

1:33 "O people,

1:35 this man

1:36 has come to you from a distant land,

1:39 from the land of Hadhramaut.

1:41 He has not come to you out of fear or greed,

1:44 but has come out of love for Allah and His Messenger.

1:48 Be kind to him,

1:50 for he is newly removed from kingship."

1:53 Then he said to me,

1:55 "You are the remnant of the sons of kings.

1:58 May Allah bless you, your children,

2:01 and your children's children."

2:03 Then he descended from the pulpit, and I descended with him.

2:08 I said, "O Messenger of Allah,

2:10 my family has usurped my rights from me."

2:14 He said,

2:16 "I will give you double that."

2:18 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, ordered

2:22 a house for me in Medina.

2:24 He commanded Mu'awiyah Ibn Abi Sufyan, may Allah be pleased with him,

2:28 to show me to my house.

2:30 I set out riding my mount,

2:33 while Mu'awiyah walked,

2:36 until we were partway along the road.

2:39 Mu'awiyah said to me,

2:41 "Let me ride behind you."

2:43 I said,

2:44 "Kings are not ridden behind."

2:47 He said,

2:49 "Then give me your sandals."

2:51 I said,

2:53 "You would walk in the shade of the camel?"

2:56 It was not that I was stingy about letting him ride behind me

2:59 or giving him my sandals,

3:01 but I disliked being shamed by it.

3:04 At that time, I was newly converted to Islam.

3:08 Then, when Mu'awiyah became the ruler of the Levant,

3:12 I visited him.

3:14 He had me sit with him on his throne.

3:17 He reminded me of my situation with him,

3:19 and I felt ashamed before him.

3:21 I wished that I had carried him in front of me.
