0:30 I was born in the land of Abyssinia.

0:32 I was the first child born into Islam there.

0:36 And I am the last of the Banu Hashim to have seen the Prophet, peace be upon him.

0:42 My father was martyred on the day of Mu'tah.

0:46 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, came to my mother.

0:51 He broke the news of my father's death to her.

0:53 I watched him as he stroked my head.

0:57 His eyes were shedding tears.

1:00 Then he came to us after three nights.

1:03 He said, "Do not weep for my brother after today."

1:08 Then he said, "Bring me my brother's sons."

1:12 We were brought to him, looking like little chicks.

1:15 He said, "Call the barber for me."

1:19 He commanded him, and he shaved our heads.

1:22 Then he pointed to me and said:

1:25 "As for this one,

1:28 he resembles my physical appearance and my character."

1:31 Our mother came,

1:34 and she mentioned our orphanhood.

1:36 The Prophet, peace be upon him, said to her:

1:39 "Do you fear poverty for them?

1:42 I am their guardian in this world and the Hereafter."

1:46 Then the Prophet, peace be upon him, took us into his care.

1:50 I grew up in his lap.

1:52 Then I wanted to pledge allegiance to him when I was seven years old.

1:57 When he saw me, he smiled.

2:00 He stretched out his hand and accepted my pledge.

2:03 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, let me ride

2:07 behind him one day.

2:09 He entered an orchard where there was a camel.

2:12 When the camel saw the Prophet, peace be upon him,

2:16 it moaned and its eyes shed tears.

2:20 The Prophet, peace be upon him, went to it.

2:24 He wiped its hump and behind its ears.

2:27 It became quiet.

2:28 He asked, "Whose camel is this?"

2:32 A young man from the Ansar said:

2:34 "It is mine, O Messenger of Allah."

2:37 The Prophet, peace be upon him, said:

2:40 "Do you not fear Allah regarding this beast that Allah has placed in your possession?

2:46 For it has complained to me

2:48 that you starve it and tire it out."

2:51 They used to call me the "Sea of Generosity."

2:54 There was no one in Islam more generous than I.

2:58 I would give abundant, great gifts,

3:02 yet I considered them little.

3:04 I once gave two million in charity.

3:08 I once gave a man sixty thousand.

3:12 And once I gave a man four thousand dinars.

3:17 It was said to me that a man had brought sugar to Medina,

3:22 but it did not sell, and no one would buy it.

3:27 I ordered my servant to buy it and give it away to the people.

3:33 Ibn 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, used to greet me by saying:

3:38 "Peace be upon you, O son of the possessor of two wings."
