0:16 I am one of the Ansar.

0:21 I believed in Allah and followed the Prophet, peace be upon him, from the very beginning.

0:27 I was among the finest of the youth of the Ansar in worship and asceticism.

0:31 And in courage, loyalty, patience, and steadfastness.

0:35 I was a lover of prayer and worship.

0:38 Devoted to it at all times and in the darkest of circumstances.

0:42 I participated in the Great Battle of Badr.

0:47 And I was one of its heroes.

0:50 I fought in it with great valor.

0:52 During it, I killed al-Harith ibn 'Amir ibn Nawfal.

0:56 One of the leaders of disbelief in Quraysh.

0:59 Which drove his sons to desire revenge against me.

1:03 Then I participated in Uhud.

1:06 And I stood firm with those who remained steadfast there.

1:09 And I defended the Prophet, peace be upon him.

1:13 After that, the Prophet, peace be upon him, sent me.

1:17 In the expedition of al-Raji'.

1:20 In the fourth year after the Hijrah.

1:22 Which was where my end would come.

1:25 There came to the Prophet, peace be upon him.

1:29 A delegation from the tribes of 'Adal and al-Qarah.

1:32 Claiming that they had embraced Islam.

1:35 And they asked the Prophet, peace be upon him.

1:38 To send with them someone to teach them the Qur'an.

1:41 And to give them understanding of the religion.

1:44 So the Prophet, peace be upon him, sent me with them.

1:47 Along with ten of his Companions.

1:50 When we reached a region called al-Raji'.

1:53 Between Makkah and 'Usfan.

1:56 The delegation betrayed us.

1:58 And they called upon the tribe of Hudhayl against us.

2:01 They surrounded us.

2:03 Some of us fought until they were killed.

2:06 While I was taken captive.

2:09 They took me to sell me in Makkah.

2:12 'Uqbah ibn al-Harith bought me to kill me.

2:15 In retaliation for his father.

2:17 I remained a captive among them.

2:19 They shackled me in iron.

2:22 When they resolved to kill me.

2:24 I asked Mawiyah bint al-Harith for a razor.

2:27 To groom myself and remove hair from my body.

2:30 She gave me the razor.

2:32 Then she became distracted from a small child of hers.

2:36 The child crawled toward me until he reached me.

2:39 I placed him on my lap.

2:42 When the woman saw me.

2:44 She was struck with a terror that I recognized.

2:47 I said to her:

2:49 "Do you fear that I would kill him?"

2:51 "I would never do that."

2:54 She took her child.

2:56 And she used to say:

2:58 "I have never seen a captive better than him."

3:01 "I saw him eating a bunch of grapes."

3:04 "And there was no fruit in Makkah at that time."

3:07 "Even though he was shackled in iron."

3:10 "It was nothing but a provision that Allah had granted him."

3:14 On the appointed day.

3:17 When they intended to kill me.

3:19 They took me outside the Sacred Precinct (Haram).

3:22 I said to them:

3:24 "Let me pray two rak'ahs."

3:26 They let me.

3:28 I performed two rak'ahs.

3:30 Then I said to them:

3:32 "By Allah, were it not that you would think I was prolonging the prayer out of fear of death,"

3:37 "I would have prayed more."

3:39 Thus, I was the first to establish the Sunnah of praying before execution.

3:43 Then the polytheists raised me on a wooden beam and crucified me.

3:47 They pierced me with spears.

3:49 And mutilated my body.

3:51 Abu Sufyan asked me:

3:53 "Would you like Muhammad to be in your place,"

3:56 "While you are in your home?"

3:59 I said to him:

4:00 "By Allah, I would not like to be with my family and children,"

4:04 "Enjoying the comforts and pleasures of the world,"

4:07 "While the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, is pricked by a thorn."

4:12 Then I supplicated against them, saying:

4:16 "O Allah, count them one by one."

4:19 "Destroy them utterly."

4:21 "And do not spare a single one of them."

4:24 Then I recited:

4:26 "I do not care, as long as I am killed as a Muslim,"

4:29 "On which side my body falls for the sake of Allah."

4:33 "This is for the sake of the Almighty, and if He wills,"

4:37 "He will bless the severed limbs of my torn body."

4:41 Then 'Uqbah ibn al-Harith came to me and killed me.

4:46 Then he left my body crucified on the beam for the birds to eat.

4:51 When the Prophet, peace be upon him, learned of the matter.

4:56 He sent al-Zubayr ibn al-'Awwam and al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad, may Allah be pleased with them both.

5:01 To bring down my body and bury it.

5:04 The two Companions succeeded in bringing me down.

5:07 And they carried me on their horses.

5:10 Quraysh learned of them.

5:12 And pursued them.

5:14 So they placed my body on the ground.

5:16 And saved themselves.

5:18 The earth immediately swallowed my body.

5:21 And Quraysh could not reach it.

5:24 Thus, Allah protected me from them after my martyrdom.

5:28 So, who am I?
