0:16 I am one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace be upon him.

0:22 I was a young man from the tribe of Muzaynah.

0:25 My father passed away when I was young.

0:28 I grew up an orphan with no wealth of my own.

0:31 My uncle took me under his care.

0:33 He was a wealthy man.

0:35 He loved me deeply.

0:38 He showered me with wealth.

0:40 Until I became the wealthiest young man in our tribe.

0:44 My clothes were brought to me from the Levant.

0:48 I owned a unique horse.

0:50 No other young man among the Arabs possessed one like it.

0:56 I heard about Islam.

0:58 Faith took root in my heart.

1:00 Along with a love for the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.

1:04 I embraced Islam but kept my faith hidden.

1:07 I would watch for the migrating Companions.

1:10 On their way to Medina.

1:13 Whenever I met one of them,

1:15 I would walk with him on foot.

1:18 I would take the rulings of the religion from him.

1:20 And learn the Qur'an from him.

1:23 Until sunset arrived.

1:25 Then I would return to my people.

1:28 And wait for another the following day.

1:31 And so it went.

1:32 I longed for my uncle to embrace Islam.

1:35 The one who had cared for me and been generous to me.

1:38 When the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, arrived in Medina,

1:43 My soul began to yearn for migration.

1:46 But I could not do so because of my uncle.

1:49 Years passed, and events unfolded while I remained in my place.

1:54 So I said to my uncle one day,

1:57 "O uncle,

1:58 I have waited a long time for you to embrace Islam.

2:01 But I see that you do not want Muhammad."

2:04 "So grant me permission to embrace Islam."

2:07 He became angry with me and said,

2:09 "By Allah, if you follow Muhammad,

2:12 I will not leave in your possession anything I have ever given you.

2:16 I will strip it all away from you,

2:18 Even these two garments you are wearing."

2:21 I replied,

2:22 "By Allah, I am a follower of Muhammad,

2:25 And I have abandoned the worship of stone and idols.

2:28 As for what is in my possession, take it."

2:31 So he took everything he had given me.

2:34 He even stripped me of my clothes.

2:37 I went to my mother.

2:39 She cut a coarse garment of hers into two pieces.

2:42 A *bijad* is a thick, coarse fabric.

2:45 I used one piece as a waist-wrapper and the other as a mantle.

2:49 Then I set out, migrating to Medina.

2:52 I had no food with me.

2:55 The journey exhausted me.

2:57 My body weakened and my complexion paled.

3:00 Until I reached Medina at the time of dawn.

3:03 I lay down in the mosque.

3:06 Then the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, led us in the morning prayer.

3:11 He began to scan the faces of the people after the prayer.

3:15 He looked at me and did not recognize me.

3:18 He asked, "Who are you?"

3:20 I told him.

3:22 He said, "Stay close to me."

3:25 I did so.

3:27 I became one of his guests.

3:31 He would teach me the Qur'an.

3:33 Until I had memorized much of it.

3:36 I remained by his side for most of my time.

3:39 I witnessed with the Prophet, peace be upon him,

3:42 The Battle of Tabuk.

3:44 On our way back,

3:46 I fell severely ill.

3:48 We stopped along the way.

3:51 My illness intensified.

3:54 Until my soul was taken.

3:58 Abdullah Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, woke up that night.

4:03 He saw a faint light at the edge of the camp.

4:07 He said, "I will draw near to them,

4:10 Perhaps I might find some food with them."

4:14 The people were in a state of severe hunger.

4:17 He approached the light.

4:19 And there was the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,

4:22 Who had descended into my grave.

4:24 With Abu Bakr and Umar, may Allah be pleased with them,

4:27 Lowering me down to him.

4:29 And he was saying,

4:31 "Bring your brother closer to me."

4:34 When he had positioned me in the niche of the grave,

4:37 He, peace be upon him, said,

4:40 "O Allah, I have spent the evening pleased with him,

4:44 So be pleased with him."

4:46 He said this three times.

4:49 Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, said,

4:52 "Would that I were the one in that grave."
