0:24 I was known for my courage, cunning, sacrifice, and devotion.

0:29 I embraced Islam early on.

0:32 I witnessed the battles alongside the Prophet, peace be upon him.

0:36 Abu Rafi‘ the Jew used to harm the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.

0:42 And he would aid the disbelievers against him.

0:45 So, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, sent a group of the Ansar to assassinate him.

0:52 And to relieve the Muslims of his evil.

0:55 He appointed me as their leader.

0:57 Abu Rafi‘ was in a fortress of his in Khaybar.

1:01 We set out toward him.

1:03 We did not draw near to it until the sun had set.

1:07 The shepherds returned with their livestock to the fortress.

1:11 I said to my companions:

1:13 "Stay where you are."

1:15 "I am going forward to act gently with the gatekeeper."

1:19 "Perhaps I may be able to enter."

1:21 I approached until I was near the gate.

1:24 Then I covered my face with my garment as if I were relieving myself.

1:29 The gatekeeper called out to me:

1:31 "O you, if you wish to enter, then enter."

1:35 "For I am about to close the gate."

1:38 I entered the fortress.

1:40 I hid near the gate.

1:43 So that I could consider my situation and organize my plan.

1:47 The gatekeeper closed the gate.

1:49 Then he hung the keys on a peg and left.

1:53 I stood up, went to the keys, and took them.

1:56 I opened the gate slightly.

1:58 I looked toward a room at the top of the fortress.

2:01 Where some people were having a night conversation.

2:04 I realized it was the room of Abu Rafi‘.

2:07 When the people who were conversing with him left,

2:10 I climbed up to him.

2:12 Every time I opened a door,

2:15 I would lock it behind me from the inside.

2:17 Until I reached Abu Rafi‘.

2:20 He was in a dark room with his wife.

2:25 I could not distinguish between them due to the intensity of the darkness.

2:29 I called out to him, "O Abu Rafi‘!"

2:32 He said, "Who is this?"

2:35 I moved toward the sound.

2:37 I struck him with a blow of my sword.

2:40 Then I exited quickly.

2:42 Abu Rafi‘ cried out.

2:44 I realized he had not died.

2:46 So I returned to him.

2:48 I changed my voice and said:

2:50 "What is the matter with you, O Abu Rafi‘?"

2:53 He said, "Woe to your mother!"

2:56 "A man in the house has struck me with a sword."

2:59 I located his position.

3:01 I struck him with the sword a second time.

3:04 Then I placed the tip of the sword on his abdomen.

3:07 Until it came out through his back.

3:10 I was certain that I had killed him.

3:13 Then I exited quickly.

3:15 I began opening the doors,

3:17 door by door.

3:19 I had poor eyesight.

3:21 I fell down the stairs.

3:23 My leg broke.

3:25 I bound it with a turban.

3:27 Then I set off until I sat near

3:30 the gate of the fortress.

3:32 When the morning rose,

3:34 the announcer stood on the wall.

3:36 And said:

3:38 "I announce the death of Abu Rafi‘,"

3:40 "the merchant of the people of the Hijaz."

3:42 I went to my companions.

3:45 And said, "Escape! Escape!"

3:47 "For Allah has killed Abu Rafi‘."

3:50 We set off toward Medina.

3:53 When we entered it,

3:56 the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,

3:59 was on the pulpit delivering a sermon.

4:01 When he saw us, he said:

4:04 "The faces have succeeded."

4:06 We said:

4:08 "And your face, O Messenger of Allah."

4:10 When he saw my broken leg,

4:13 he said:

4:14 "Stretch out your leg."

4:16 I stretched it out.

4:17 He wiped it.

4:19 It healed,

4:20 as if I had never suffered from it at all.

4:23 So, who am I?
