0:37 Used to honor and revere me.

0:40 After I embraced Islam, I became one of the closest companions of the Prophet, peace be upon him.

0:47 My name during the Age of Ignorance was Husayn.

0:50 Then the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, changed my name.

0:55 And he bore witness that I would enter Paradise.

0:58 I knew that this was the time of a prophet.

1:02 And I was awaiting his mission.

1:04 When the Prophet, peace be upon him, arrived in Medina,

1:09 People rushed toward him.

1:11 I was among those who came to him.

1:14 When I looked closely at his face,

1:16 I knew that his face was not the face of a liar.

1:20 The first thing I heard him say was:

1:26 "O people, spread peace (salam),

1:29 Feed the hungry,

1:31 Maintain ties of kinship,

1:33 And pray at night while people are sleeping,

1:36 You will enter Paradise in peace."

1:39 Then I came to the Prophet, peace be upon him,

1:43 And I asked him about things that only a prophet would know.

1:48 He answered them for me.

1:50 So I embraced Islam,

1:52 And I bore witness that there is no god but Allah,

1:55 And that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

1:58 Then I said,

1:59 "O Messenger of Allah,

2:01 The Jews are a people of slander.

2:04 If they learn of my Islam, they will slander me before you.

2:09 So send for them and ask them about me."

2:13 The Prophet, peace be upon him, sent for them,

2:16 And asked them about me while I was behind a curtain.

2:20 They said,

2:22 "He is the best of us and the son of the best of us,

2:24 Our scholar and the son of our scholar,

2:27 Our most learned in fiqh and the son of our most learned in fiqh."

2:30 He said,

2:31 "What do you think if he embraces Islam?

2:33 Will you embrace Islam?"

2:35 They said,

2:36 "May Allah protect him from that!"

2:39 Then I came out to them and said,

2:42 "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah,

2:45 And that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."

2:48 They said to me,

2:50 "You are the worst of us and the son of the worst of us,

2:53 Our most ignorant and the son of our most ignorant."

2:56 So I said,

2:58 "This is what I feared from them, O Messenger of Allah."

3:02 Then Allah revealed regarding us:

3:05 “Bethink you: If it is from Allah and ye disbelieve therein, and a witness of the Children of Israel hath already testified to the like thereof and hath believed, and ye are too proud (what plight is yours)? Lo! Allah guideth not wrong-doing folk.” (46:10)

3:22 "And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people."

3:28 I once had a dream,

3:31 And I narrated it to the Prophet, peace be upon him.

3:35 I said,

3:37 "I saw that I was in a green garden,

3:40 In the middle of which was an iron pillar,

3:43 Its base was in the earth,

3:45 And its top was in the sky.

3:47 At its top was a handle.

3:49 It was said to me,

3:51 'Climb it.'

3:53 So I climbed until I took hold of the handle.

3:56 It was said,

3:58 'Hold fast to the handle.'

4:00 I woke up, and it was still in my hand."

4:04 When morning came,

4:06 I went to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,

4:09 And I narrated it to him.

4:12 He said,

4:13 "As for the garden,

4:15 It is the garden of Islam.

4:17 As for the pillar,

4:19 It is the pillar of Islam.

4:21 And as for the handle,

4:23 It is the firmest handle (al-'urwah al-wuthqa).

4:25 You will remain upon Islam until you die."
