A new challenge: Who am I?
0:16
I am one of the female Companions who migrated.
0:21
I embraced Islam at the very beginning of the Prophet’s mission, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, in Makkah.
0:27
I then performed both migrations.
0:29
To Abyssinia and to Madinah.
0:32
I prayed toward both qiblas.
0:34
I was wise, eloquent, and courageous.
0:38
When we were preparing to migrate to Abyssinia,
0:43
my husband, ‘Amir, had gone away to attend to some business.
0:47
Suddenly, ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab approached while he was still in a state of polytheism.
0:52
He stood before me.
0:54
We used to suffer great hardship and harm at his hands.
0:58
He said, "Where are you heading, O Umm ‘Abdullah?"
1:02
I replied, "By Allah, we are going to depart into the land of Allah."
1:07
"For you have harmed us and oppressed us."
1:10
"Until Allah grants us a way out."
1:13
He said, "May Allah be with you."
1:17
I noticed a sense of tenderness and sadness in him.
1:21
When my husband returned, I told him about it.
1:25
I said to him,
1:26
"If only you had seen ‘Umar and the tenderness and sadness he showed for us."
1:30
He said, "Do you hope that he will embrace Islam?"
1:34
I said, "Yes."
1:36
He replied, "‘Umar will not embrace Islam,"
1:39
"until the donkey of al-Khattab embraces Islam."
1:42
This was because of the harshness and severity he saw him display toward the Muslims.
1:47
Then days passed,
1:49
and ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, embraced Islam.
1:52
Through him, Allah strengthened Islam and the Muslims.
1:56
I was the first woman to migrate to Madinah.
2:01
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,
2:05
used to come to visit us in our home.
2:08
One day,
2:10
I said to my son, ‘Abdullah,
2:12
"Come here, let me give you something."
2:16
The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to me,
2:20
"What did you intend to give him?"
2:23
I said, "I was going to give him a date."
2:26
He said, "Had you not given him anything,"
2:31
"it would have been recorded against you as a lie."
2:33
So, who am I?

3:00
They were here, watering the clouds of our lives.
3:05
They passed away, yet their memory remains exalted among us.
3:10
They departed, leaving a question in the conscience:
3:15
Is there any star like them that has risen and shone?
3:20
They filled life with pride through their deeds.
3:25
And the world of mankind flourished because of them.
