0:21 I was an ally of the Banu Zuhrah.

0:24 In my youth in Makkah,

0:27 I used to tend sheep for 'Uqbah Ibn Abi Mu'ayt.

0:30 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, passed by me,

0:33 along with Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him.

0:36 He said, "O young boy,

0:39 do you have any milk?"

0:42 I replied, "Yes, but I am a trustee."

0:45 He, peace be upon him, then said,

0:48 "Is there a ewe that has not yet been mounted

0:51 by a ram?"

0:53 I said, "Yes," and brought him a ewe.

0:56 He wiped its udder,

0:58 and the milk flowed down.

1:00 He milked it into a vessel,

1:02 then drank, gave some to Abu Bakr, and gave some to me.

1:06 Then he said to the udder,

1:09 "Shrink," and it shrank.

1:11 I said, "O Messenger of Allah,

1:14 teach me some of these words."

1:17 He wiped my head and said,

1:20 "You are a gifted young boy."

1:23 I embraced Islam at that moment,

1:25 and I was among the first to accept Islam,

1:28 even before the Prophet, peace be upon him, entered

1:32 the house of Al-Arqam.

1:34 I remained close to the Prophet in Makkah,

1:39 and I was bold in my faith,

1:42 becoming the first to recite the Qur'an aloud in Makkah

1:46 after the Prophet, peace be upon him.

1:49 I endured what the early Muslims endured

1:53 from the persecution of the Quraysh,

1:55 until I migrated to Abyssinia,

1:58 and then to Madinah.

2:00 I remained close to the Prophet in Madinah as well.

2:06 I would put on his sandals for him,

2:09 then walk before him with his staff.

2:12 When he reached his gathering place,

2:15 I would take off his sandals,

2:17 carry them in my arms,

2:19 and hand him his staff.

2:21 I would enter his private quarters ahead of him with his staff.

2:25 When traveling, I was

2:27 the keeper of the Prophet's secrets, his bedding,

2:32 his siwak, his sandals, and his water for purification.

2:35 I was the one who would screen the Prophet when he bathed,

2:41 wake him when he slept,

2:43 and keep him company when he walked.

2:46 Some of the Companions even thought I was a member of his household, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

2:54 I witnessed Badr and all the battles with the Prophet, peace be upon him.

3:00 During the blessed Battle of Badr,

3:03 the Prophet, peace be upon him, said,

3:06 "Who will see what Abu Jahl has done?"

3:09 I said, "I will, O Messenger of Allah."

3:13 Abu Jahl had been one of those who tormented me most severely in Makkah.

3:18 I went to him and found him struck down,

3:21 but still clinging to life.

3:23 The sons of 'Afra' had struck him.

3:26 I climbed onto his chest and killed him.

3:29 Then I came to the Prophet, peace be upon him, and said,

3:33 "I have killed Abu Jahl."

3:35 He asked,

3:37 "By Allah, besides whom there is no god?"

3:41 He repeated this three times.

3:43 Then he said,

3:45 "Allah is the Greatest."

3:47 "Go and show him to me."

3:49 We went,

3:51 and there he was, fallen and dead.

3:54 The Prophet, peace be upon him, said,

3:57 "This is the Pharaoh of this Ummah."
