I am one of the emigrant Companions (Muhajirun),

I am among the foremost, earliest converts to Islam,

and I was the very first to emigrate to Abyssinia, and then to Madinah.

When I resolved to emigrate to Madinah,

I prepared two mounts for myself, my wife, and my infant son,

and set out toward Madinah.

But when the men of Banu al-Mughirah saw me,

they confronted me and said:

"As for yourself, you have overpowered us and had your way,

but what about this woman of ours?

Why should we let you travel around the land with her?"

So they snatched the reins of my wife's camel from my hand,

and took her and my son away.

I fought alongside the Prophet (peace be upon him) at Badr and Uhud,

and in the Battle of Uhud, I was struck with a deep wound in my upper arm.

I spent a month after the battle treating it.

Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, dispatched me

on an expedition against Banu Asad,

binding a banner for me to lead a raiding party

of one hundred and fifty men from the Muhajirun and the Ansar.

We captured cattle belonging to them,

and then returned to Madinah.

After that, the wound I had sustained at Uhud reopened,

and I died as a result of it.

and grant me something better in exchange for it."

But when her waiting period ('iddah) ended,

Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) proposed to her,

Then 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) proposed to her,

and she declined him as well.

Then the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, sent asking for her hand,

"Welcome to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him!"

Thus, Allah replaced me with one far better than me.
