0:16 I am one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.

0:24 I embraced Islam in the Year of Delegations, the ninth year after the Hijrah.

0:29 I was the first to light a lamp in the Prophet’s Mosque.

0:33 I am the only one from whom the Prophet, peace be upon him, narrated a hadith.

0:39 This occurred when he narrated my account of the Jassasah.

0:45 That account is that I once set sail on the sea with thirty men.

0:51 The waves tossed us about for a month.

0:54 Then, we sought refuge on an island.

0:56 I told the Prophet, peace be upon him, our story.

1:01 He, peace be upon him, stood up quickly.

1:04 He ascended the pulpit and called out to the people, "Prayer is gathering!"

1:10 The people gathered, and he said:

1:13 "O people!

1:15 I did not call you out of desire or fear.

1:19 But this man has informed me

1:22 that a group of people from Palestine set sail on the sea.

1:26 The wind cast them onto an island in the sea.

1:31 There, they found a beast covered in thick hair.

1:34 They could not tell if it was male or female

1:37 because of the density of its hair.

1:39 They asked, 'Who are you?'

1:41 It replied:

1:42 'I am the Jassasah.'

1:45 They asked:

1:46 'Then tell us.'

1:48 It said:

1:50 'I will neither inform you nor ask you.

1:54 But in this monastery, there is a man who is eager

1:57 to inform you and to be informed by you.'

2:01 They entered the monastery.

2:03 There, they found a man with one eye,

2:05 shackled in iron.

2:07 He asked:

2:08 'Who are you?'

2:10 They said:

2:11 'We are Arabs.'

2:13 He asked:

2:14 'Has the Prophet been sent among you?'

2:17 They said, 'Yes.'

2:18 He asked:

2:19 'Have the Arabs followed him?'

2:21 They said, 'Yes.'

2:23 He said:

2:24 'That is better for them.'

2:26 He asked:

2:27 'What has become of Persia?

2:29 Has he prevailed over it?'

2:31 They said, 'No.'

2:33 He said:

2:34 'Know that he will prevail over it.'

2:37 Then he asked:

2:39 'What has become of the spring of Zughar?'

2:41 They said:

2:43 'It is flowing full.'

2:45 He asked:

2:46 'What has become of the palm trees of Baysan?

2:49 Have they borne fruit?'

2:50 They said:

2:51 'Yes,

2:52 they have begun to.'

2:55 He said:

2:56 Then he gave a leap

2:58 so great that we thought he would escape.

3:01 We asked, 'Who are you?'

3:03 He said:

3:05 'I am the Dajjal.

3:07 I shall tread upon the entire earth,

3:10 except for Makkah and Taybah (Madinah).'"

3:12 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, then said:

3:16 "Rejoice, O community of Muslims!

3:19 This is Taybah,

3:21 and he shall not enter it."

3:23 After my conversion to Islam,

3:25 I became known for my abundant worship, my night prayers,

3:28 and my recitation of the Qur'an.

3:30 On one of those nights,

3:33 I stood in the mosque after the Isha prayer

3:36 to pray.

3:38 I passed by this verse:

3:40 "The Fire will sear their faces,

3:42 and they will be therein, scowling."

3:45 I kept repeating it

3:47 until I heard the call to the dawn prayer.
