0:12 A new challenge: Who am I?
0:16 I am one of the knights of the Muslims.
0:21 And one of the famous archers of the Arabs.
0:23 And the fastest of people on foot.
0:26 To the extent that I could catch up to a gazelle.
0:28 And outrun horses.
0:30 I am among the bravest of people in the heat of battle.
0:34 I pledged allegiance to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, to fight to the death under the tree three times.
0:40 In what is known as the Pledge of Ridwan.
0:43 One day, I went out to the highlands of Medina.
0:49 With a horse belonging to Talha, may Allah be pleased with him.
0:52 Then ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn ‘Uyaynah raided the camels of the Prophet, peace be upon him.
0:58 He killed their shepherd.
1:00 And he took the camels, he and some men with him on horseback.
1:04 So I said to those who were with me:
1:06 "Take this horse."
1:08 "And get it to Talha."
1:10 "And inform the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him."
1:14 Then I followed the group, running on foot.
1:18 I began shooting arrows at them and hitting them.
1:21 Whenever a horseman among them turned back toward me,
1:24 I would sit for him at the base of a tree.
1:26 Then I would shoot him and say:
1:29 "I am the son of al-Akwa’."
1:31 "And today is the day of the lowly."
1:33 And whenever the mountain passes became narrow,
1:36 I would climb the mountain.
1:38 And pelt them with stones.
1:40 This remained my way and theirs,
1:43 Until not a single one of the Prophet’s, peace be upon him, camels remained,
1:48 Except that I had rescued it from them.
1:50 And I left them behind my back.
1:53 Then I continued to shoot at them,
1:55 Until they dropped more than thirty spears.
1:59 And more than thirty cloaks to lighten their load.
2:04 And they would not drop anything,
2:06 But I would place stones on it.
2:08 And I gathered it all on the path of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.
2:13 Then, when the morning advanced,
2:16 Reinforcements came to them.
2:18 So I climbed the mountain.
2:20 And four of them climbed up toward me.
2:22 I said to them:
2:24 "Do you know who I am?"
2:26 They said, "And who are you?"
2:28 I said:
2:29 "I am the son of al-Akwa’."
2:31 "By the One who honored the face of Muhammad, peace be upon him,"
2:35 "No man among you will pursue me and catch me,"
2:39 "And I will not pursue any of you and have him escape me."
2:42 I did not leave that spot,
2:44 Until I saw the horsemen of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,
2:49 Passing through the trees.
2:51 The polytheists turned and fled.
2:53 And I went out running in pursuit of them.
2:56 Before sunset, they descended into a valley containing water,
3:00 Known as Dhu Qarad.
3:02 They saw me running behind them,
3:05 So they abandoned the water.
3:07 And they did not taste a single drink of it.
3:09 And they left behind two horses.
3:11 I drove them to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.
3:16 He was at the water from which I had driven them away.
3:19 He was with five hundred of his Companions.
3:22 And Bilal, may Allah be pleased with him,
3:25 Had slaughtered a camel from what I had left behind me.
3:29 He was roasting it for the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.
3:33 I said, "O Messenger of Allah,"
3:36 "Let me take a hundred of your Companions,"
3:39 "And I will catch up with them,"
3:41 "And I will not leave a single one of them to tell the tale."
3:44 He, peace be upon him, said:
3:47 "Would you really do that?"
3:49 I said, "Yes."
3:51 The Prophet, peace be upon him, laughed,
3:54 Until I saw his molars in the light of the fire.
3:58 When morning came,
4:00 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said to me:
4:04 "You are the best of our foot soldiers."
4:07 And he gave me the share of both the foot soldier and the horseman.
4:11 Then he let me ride behind him on al-‘Adba’.
4:14 And we returned to Medina.
4:18 When there was a short distance between us and Medina,
4:22 There was a man among the people who could not be outrun.
4:25 He began calling out:
4:27 "Is there no man who will race to Medina?"
4:30 He repeated that several times.
4:32 And no one answered him.
4:35 I was silent out of respect for my place with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.
4:40 But when he persisted,
4:43 I said to him:
4:44 "Do you not honor a noble person or fear a man of status?"
4:48 He said, "No,"
4:49 "Except for the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him."
4:53 So I said, "O Messenger of Allah,"
4:56 "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you,"
4:58 "Let me race him."
5:00 He said, "If you wish."
5:02 So I said to the man:
5:04 "Go ahead."
5:05 I let him get ahead until I could no longer see him.
5:09 Then I ran after him until I caught up to him.
5:13 I struck him with my hand between his shoulder blades.
5:16 And I said:
5:17 "I have beaten you, by Allah!"
5:19 The man laughed.
5:21 So, who am I?
