0:23 “Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming?” (88:1)

1:05 It is the Fire that overwhelms the faces of the disbelievers.

1:08 The faces of the people of disbelief on that Day will be humiliated.

1:11 Laboring in the Fire, weary therein.

1:15 These faces will be brought to a scorching fire.

1:18 Which has been heated and whose heat has intensified.

1:20 And the inhabitants of these faces will be given to drink.

1:23 From a boiling spring whose heat has reached its peak.

1:26 It has reached its limit in intensity of heat.

1:29 These people, who are the owners of the faces.

1:32 That are humbled, laboring, and weary on the Day of Resurrection.

1:37 Will have no food except what they are fed from a plant.

1:40 Called al-Shariq, which is a poisonous plant.

1:43 This thorny plant does not nourish on the Day of Resurrection.

1:46 Those among the people of the Fire who eat it.

1:48 Nor does it satisfy their hunger.

1:53 Some faces on that Day will be blissful.

1:58 Pleased with their effort.

2:01 In a lofty garden.

2:04 “Where they hear no idle speech,” (88:11)

2:08 In it is a flowing spring.

2:11 In it are thrones raised high.

2:15 And cups placed ready.

2:19 And cushions lined up.

2:22 And carpets spread out.

2:26 Some faces on the Day of Resurrection will be blissful.

2:29 Because Allah has bestowed bliss upon their owners in His gardens.

2:32 They are the people of faith in Allah.

2:35 Because of the work they performed in the world.

2:37 Pleased with the obedience of their Lord.

2:40 In a high garden.

2:42 These faces will not hear in the lofty garden.

2:45 Any vain or false speech.

2:48 And in the lofty garden is a flowing spring, not in a channel.

2:53 And thrones raised high.

2:55 So that the believer, when he sits upon them, may see.

2:57 Everything his Lord has granted him of bliss and dominion therein.

3:02 And his sight encompasses all of that.

3:05 And cups, which is the plural of "cup."

3:07 These are the pitchers that have no handles.

3:11 Placed on the edge of the flowing spring.

3:15 Whenever he desires to drink.

3:16 He finds them filled with drink.

3:19 And cushions and pillows lined up.

3:22 Because some are beside others.

3:25 And many carpets spread out and laid down.

3:30 “Will they not regard the camels, how they are created?” (88:17)

3:35 “And the heaven, how it is raised?” (88:18)

3:40 “And the hills, how they are set up?” (88:19)

3:43 “And the earth, how it is spread?” (88:20)

3:48 The Almighty says, addressing those who deny His power.

3:51 Over what He has described in this Surah.

3:54 Of the punishment and retribution He has prepared for the people of His enmity.

3:58 And the bliss and honor He has prepared for the people of His friendship.

4:03 Do these deniers not look?

4:05 At the power of Allah over these matters.

4:08 At the camels, how He created them, subjected them to them, and made them submissive.

4:13 And made them carry their loads while kneeling.

4:15 Then they rise with it.

4:17 And He who created that is not incapable.

4:20 Of creating what He has described of these matters in Paradise and the Fire.

4:25 And His saying:

4:26 “And the heaven, how it is raised?” (88:18)

4:29 Do they not also look at the sky above them?

4:33 How He raised it, He who informed you.

4:35 That He has prepared for His allies what He described.

4:38 And for His enemies what He mentioned.

4:41 So that they may know that His power is the power.

4:43 That is not hindered by anything He wills to do.

4:47 And at the mountains, how they were set up, standing firm so they do not fall and spread out on the earth.

4:53 But He made them, by His power, standing firm and solid.

4:58 They do not leave their place.

4:59 Nor do they move from their position.

5:02 And at the earth, how it was spread out.

5:06 “Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer,” (88:21)

5:12 You are not a controller over them.

5:15 “But whoso is averse and disbelieveth,” (88:23)

5:19 “Allah will punish him with direst punishment.” (88:24)

5:24 Indeed, to Us is their return.

5:28 “And Ours their reckoning.” (88:26)

5:34 So remind, O Muhammad, My servants with My signs.

5:38 Admonish them with My proofs.

5:39 And convey My message to them.

5:42 You were only sent to them as a reminder.

5:45 To remind them of My favor upon them.

5:48 To make them aware of what is required of them and to admonish them.

5:51 You are not a tyrant over them.

5:53 Nor are you a compeller to force them to what you want.

5:57 All of them are to Me, and I will judge them.

6:01 And His saying: "Except for one who turns away and disbelieves."

6:04 This can be interpreted in two ways.

6:07 One of them:

6:08 So remind your people, O Muhammad.

6:10 Except for those among them who turn away from you.

6:13 And turn away from the signs of Allah and disbelieve.

6:16 And the second way:

6:18 You are not a controller over them.

6:20 “But whoso is averse and disbelieveth,” (88:23)

6:22 Allah will punish him.

6:24 And His saying:

6:25 “Allah will punish him with direst punishment.” (88:24)

6:28 Meaning, Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment.

6:31 For his disbelief in Him in the world.

6:33 And the punishment of Hell in the Hereafter.

6:36 Indeed, to Us is the return of those who disbelieve and their final destination.

6:40 Then, indeed, upon Allah is their reckoning.

6:43 And He will recompense him for what preceded from him of disobedience to his Lord.
