0:03 The Summary of Tafsir al-Tabari,
0:07 Abridged by Dr. 'Aqeel Ibn Salim al-Shammari.
0:12 Surah an-Nisa'.
0:16 In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
0:22 “And serve Allah. Ascribe no thing as partner unto Him. (Show) kindness unto parents, and unto near kindred, and orphans, and the needy, and unto the neighbour who is of kin (unto you) and the neighbour who is not of kin, and the fellow-traveller and the wayfarer and (the slaves) whom your right hands possess. Lo! Allah loveth not such as are proud and boastful,” (4:36)
0:26 ◁and show kindness to parents, relatives, orphans,▷
0:33 ◁relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbor,▷
0:39 “And serve Allah.
0:46 ◁the traveler, and those your right hands possess.▷
0:51 “And serve Allah.
0:59 Humble yourselves before Allah in obedience, and submit to Him through it.
1:03 Do not set up any partner alongside Him in Lordship whom you venerate.
1:08 Show dutifulness to parents, and treat relatives—
1:12 namely, one's relatives through either their father or their mother—
1:16 with kindness by upholding ties of kinship; and treat orphans and the needy,
1:21 who are those overcome by the humiliation of destitution and poverty;
1:26 and the neighbor who is a relative and shares kinship with you;
1:29 and the distant neighbor between whom and yourself there is no kinship;
1:33 and the companion at your side—which includes a travel companion and one's wife;
1:39 and the person devoted to someone, remaining attached to him in the hope of benefiting from him;
1:43 and the wayfarer, who has a right over anyone he passes by in need that they assist him,
1:49 provided his journey is not in disobedience to Allah;
1:52 and those your right hands possess among your slaves.
1:57 Indeed, Allah does not love anyone who is arrogant,
2:00 boasting over the servants of Allah about the bounties that Allah has bestowed upon him.
2:06 ◁those who are stingy and enjoin stinginess upon people▷
2:12 “Who hoard their wealth and enjoin avarice on others, and hide that which Allah hath bestowed upon them of His bounty. For disbelievers We prepare a shameful doom;” (4:37)
2:21 ◁and We have prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating punishment.▷
2:27 And Allah does not love those who are arrogant and boastful,
2:32 who are stingy in disclosing what Allah commanded them to make clear to the people
2:37 regarding the name of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), his description, and his character, which He revealed in His scriptures to His prophets,
2:45 even though they know it fully well;
2:47 and they command the people who possess this knowledge
2:50 to conceal what Allah commanded them to clarify to them.
2:54 And We have prepared for those who deny Allah's favor—namely, the knowledge of the prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him)—a humiliating punishment.
3:03 “And (also) those who spend their wealth in order to be seen of men, and believe not in Allah nor the Last Day. Whoso taketh Satan for a comrade, a bad comrade hath he.” (4:38)
3:10 “And (also) those who spend their wealth in order to be seen of men, and believe not in Allah nor the Last Day. Whoso taketh Satan for a comrade, a bad comrade hath he.” (4:38)
3:18 “And (also) those who spend their wealth in order to be seen of men, and believe not in Allah nor the Last Day. Whoso taketh Satan for a comrade, a bad comrade hath he.” (4:38)
3:26 And those who spend their wealth only to show off before people, not in obedience to Allah,
3:33 and who neither believe in the oneness of Allah nor in the return to Him on the Day of Resurrection, wherein deeds will be requited.
3:41 And whoever has Satan as a close friend and companion,
3:45 how evil a companion is Satan!
3:48 “What have they (to fear) if they believe in Allah and the Last Day and spend (aright) of that which Allah hath bestowed upon them, when Allah is ever Aware of them (and all they do)?” (4:39)
4:02 “What have they (to fear) if they believe in Allah and the Last Day and spend (aright) of that which Allah hath bestowed upon them, when Allah is ever Aware of them (and all they do)?” (4:39)
4:05 “Lo! Allah wrongeth not even of the weight of an ant; and if there is a good deed, He will double it and will give (the doer) from His presence an immense reward.” (4:40)
4:19 And what harm would come upon them if they believed that Allah is One without partner,
4:26 were certain of the Resurrection, and paid the zakat on their wealth that Allah provided them?
4:32 For Allah is fully All-Knowing of them and of their deeds;
4:36 nothing of them is hidden from Him, so that He may requite them accordingly upon their return to Him.
4:44 For Allah does not wrong any of His creation who spends in His cause even by the weight of an atom,
4:50 but rather He requites him for it and rewards him for it.
4:54 And if there is any good deed to his credit, He multiplies its reward and recompense,
4:59 and grants him from Himself a tremendous reward, which is Paradise.
5:04 “But how (will it be with them) when We bring of every people a witness, and We bring thee (O Muhammad) a witness against these?” (4:41)
5:19 So how will it be for them when We bring from every nation a witness to testify against it regarding its deeds,
5:25 and its acceptance or rejection of its messengers,
5:29 and We bring you, O Muhammad, as a witness over your Ummah?
5:33 “On that day those who disbelieved and disobeyed the messenger will wish that they were level with the ground, and they can hide no fact from Allah.” (4:42)
5:39 “On that day those who disbelieved and disobeyed the messenger will wish that they were level with the ground, and they can hide no fact from Allah.” (4:42)
5:45 “On that day those who disbelieved and disobeyed the messenger will wish that they were level with the ground, and they can hide no fact from Allah.” (4:42)
5:49 Those who denied the oneness of Allah and disobeyed His Messenger will wish
5:55 that they were turned into dust so that they and the earth were one and the same,
6:00 and their limbs will not be able to conceal a single matter from Allah.
6:04 “O ye who believe! Draw not near unto prayer when ye are drunken, till ye know that which ye utter, nor when ye are polluted, save when journeying upon the road, till ye have bathed. And if ye be ill, or on a journey, or one of you cometh from the closet, or ye have touched women, and ye find not water, then go to high clean soil and rub your faces and your hands (therewith). Lo! Allah is Benign, Forgiving.” (4:43)
6:15 “O ye who believe!
6:26 ◁until you have bathed.▷
6:29 ◁And if you are ill, or on a journey, or one of you comes from the place of relieving oneself,▷
6:45 ◁or you have had contact with women and find no water, then perform tayammum with clean earth▷
7:04 “O ye who believe!
7:14 O you who have believed in Allah and His Messenger,
7:18 do not approach the mosques to perform prayer therein while you are intoxicated,
7:23 until you know what you are saying in your prayer;
7:27 nor in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah)—until you have bathed—unless you are passing through.
7:32 And if you are ill with a wound or smallpox while in a state of major ritual impurity,
7:37 or if you are traveling and healthy yet in major ritual impurity,
7:41 or one of you comes from relieving himself while on a journey and in good health,
7:46 or you have had marital relations with women and wish to pray,
7:50 and you seek water to purify yourselves with,
7:53 but do not find it, whether for a price or otherwise,
7:57 then seek clean, barren earth that is free of vegetation,
8:01 level and pure from filth and impurities,
8:05 and wipe your faces and hands with it.
8:08 Indeed, Allah has always been Pardoning of the sins of His servants,
8:12 and leaves unpunished many of them so long as they do not associate partners with Him.
8:32 Have you not seen with your heart, O Muhammad,
8:36 those who were given a portion of the Book of Allah and knew it,
8:40 purchasing error?
8:42 They are the Jews who were given a portion of the Scripture;
8:46 they choose misguidance, and these Jews desire
8:50 that you, O companions of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), go astray
8:55 from the straight path and the clear highway of truth.
9:07 And Allah knows better than you do the enmity of these Jews toward you.
9:13 So in Allah, O believers, place your trust,
9:16 and upon Him rely,
9:18 and sufficient is Allah as a helper for you against your enemies.
9:37 ◁Hear, may you not hear, and say 'Raina', twisting their tongues▷
9:43 “Some of those who are Jews change words from their context and say: "We hear and disobey; hear thou as one who heareth not" and "Listen to us!" distorting with their tongues and slandering religion. If they had said: "We hear and we obey: hear thou, and look at us" it had been better for them, and more upright. But Allah hath cursed them for their disbelief, so they believe not, save a few.” (4:46)
9:49 “Some of those who are Jews change words from their context and say: "We hear and disobey; hear thou as one who heareth not" and "Listen to us!" distorting with their tongues and slandering religion. If they had said: "We hear and we obey: hear thou, and look at us" it had been better for them, and more upright. But Allah hath cursed them for their disbelief, so they believe not, save a few.” (4:46)
9:56 “Some of those who are Jews change words from their context and say: "We hear and disobey; hear thou as one who heareth not" and "Listen to us!" distorting with their tongues and slandering religion. If they had said: "We hear and we obey: hear thou, and look at us" it had been better for them, and more upright. But Allah hath cursed them for their disbelief, so they believe not, save a few.” (4:46)
10:01 “Some of those who are Jews change words from their context and say: "We hear and disobey; hear thou as one who heareth not" and "Listen to us!" distorting with their tongues and slandering religion. If they had said: "We hear and we obey: hear thou, and look at us" it had been better for them, and more upright. But Allah hath cursed them for their disbelief, so they believe not, save a few.” (4:46)
10:05 ◁and they do not believe except a few.▷
10:10 Have you not seen those who were given a portion of the Scripture among those who are Jews,
10:15 who distort words from their meanings and alter them from their proper contexts and applications?
10:21 And among those who are Jews are those who say, "We hear your words, O Muhammad, and disobey your command;
10:27 and hear from us, may you never hear,"
10:30 like the statement of a person insulting a man:
10:33 "Hear, may Allah never let you hear!"
10:35 And: "Lend us your ear, and understand from us and make us understand,"
10:39 twisting with their tongues to distort the meaning into its derogatory sense,
10:46 out of contempt for the right of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and slander against the religion.
10:52 And if only these Jews whom Allah described
10:57 had said to the Prophet of Allah:
10:59 "We hear your words, O Muhammad, and obey your command,"
11:03 it would have been better for them with Allah.
11:06 But Allah disgraced these Jews
11:09 because of their rejection of the prophethood of His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)
11:14 and what he brought them from their Lord of guidance and clear proofs.
11:19 So they do not believe in Muhammad (peace be upon him) except with very little faith.
11:25 “O ye unto whom the Scripture hath been given! Believe in what We have revealed confirming that which ye possess, before We destroy countenances so as to confound them, or curse them as We cursed the Sabbath-breakers (of old time). The commandment of Allah is always executed.” (4:47)
11:39 “O ye unto whom the Scripture hath been given! Believe in what We have revealed confirming that which ye possess, before We destroy countenances so as to confound them, or curse them as We cursed the Sabbath-breakers (of old time). The commandment of Allah is always executed.” (4:47)
11:48 “O ye unto whom the Scripture hath been given! Believe in what We have revealed confirming that which ye possess, before We destroy countenances so as to confound them, or curse them as We cursed the Sabbath-breakers (of old time). The commandment of Allah is always executed.” (4:47)
11:59 ◁And the command of Allah is always executed.▷
12:04 O you who were given the Scripture among the Jews of the Children of Israel,
12:09 believe in what We have revealed to Muhammad,
12:12 confirming what is with you of the Torah,
12:15 “O ye unto whom the Scripture hath been given! Believe in what We have revealed confirming that which ye possess, before We destroy countenances so as to confound them, or curse them as We cursed the Sabbath-breakers (of old time). The commandment of Allah is always executed.” (4:47)
12:18 lest We obliterate their sight and erase their features,
12:21 making them flat like the backs of their necks,
12:24 placing their eyes in the back of their heads,
12:27 and turning faces into the backs of necks,
12:30 and the backs of necks into faces,
12:32 so that they walk backwards;
12:34 or curse you and disgrace you, turning you into apes,
12:38 just as We disgraced those among your ancestors who transgressed the Sabbath.
12:42 And everything Allah has commanded to be is created and brought into existence.
13:06 Indeed, Allah does not forgive that partners be associated with Him,
13:09 but He forgives whatever is less than that shirk
13:12 for whomever He wills among the people of sins and offenses.
13:15 And whoever associates partners with Allah in His worship
13:18 has fabricated a tremendous sin.
13:36 Have you not seen with your heart, O Muhammad,
13:39 those who claim purity for themselves among the Jews,
13:42 absolving themselves of sins and declaring themselves pure?
13:45 The matter is not as you claim—that you have no sins or faults.
13:50 For the one who is truly pure is not the one who purifies himself,
13:53 but rather the one whom Allah purifies.
13:56 And Allah purifies whomever He wills of His creation
13:59 by granting him success in avoiding the acts of disobedience that He detests,
14:03 and directing him toward the acts of obedience that please Him.
14:06 And Allah does not wrong His servants even the extent of a fatil (a scaleline thread),
14:09 which is the smallest of things that has no significance or value.
14:25 Look, O Muhammad, how they invent—
14:28 those who claim purity for themselves—such lies
14:31 and falsehood in speech!
14:33 And sufficient is their utterance as a sin
14:36 that exposes their falsehood to those who hear it,
14:38 and makes clear to them that they are slanderous liars and wicked evildoers.
15:05 Have you not seen with your heart, O Muhammad,
15:07 those who were given a portion of the Book of Allah and knew it,
15:11 believing in idols and false deities,
15:14 and disbelieving in Allah,
15:16 and saying to those who denied the oneness of Allah—
15:20 those whom Allah characterized with disbelief—
15:23 that they are more upright and just in way than those who believed in Allah and His Messenger?
15:39 Those are the ones who were given a portion of the Scripture,
15:44 while they believe in idols and false deities.
15:47 Allah has disgraced them and removed them far from His mercy.
15:50 And whomever Allah disgraces and removes far from His mercy,
15:54 you will never find for him, O Muhammad, a helper
15:57 to aid him against Allah's punishment
15:59 and avert it from him.
16:08 “Or have they even a share in the Sovereignty? Then in that case, they would not give mankind even the speck on a date-stone.” (4:53)
16:12 They have no share in the dominion.
16:16 And even if they had a share in the dominion,
16:19 they would not give the people so much as a naqir (a speck),
16:22 which is the tinest possible speck,
16:25 like the tiny pit on the back of a date stone,
16:28 and this includes everything similar to such tiny specks.
16:32 “Or are they jealous of mankind because of that which Allah of His bounty hath bestowed upon them? For We bestowed upon the house of Abraham (of old) the Scripture and wisdom, and We bestowed on them a mighty kingdom.” (4:54)
16:39 “Or are they jealous of mankind because of that which Allah of His bounty hath bestowed upon them? For We bestowed upon the house of Abraham (of old) the Scripture and wisdom, and We bestowed on them a mighty kingdom.” (4:54)
16:45 ◁and We gave them a great kingdom.▷
16:50 Or do these Jews envy Muhammad
16:53 “Or are they jealous of mankind because of that which Allah of His bounty hath bestowed upon them? For We bestowed upon the house of Abraham (of old) the Scripture and wisdom, and We bestowed on them a mighty kingdom.” (4:54)
16:56 for the prophethood with which He favored Muhammad?
16:59 For We already gave the family of Abraham—
17:02 who were his household and his followers upon his religion—
17:05 the Book of Allah that He revealed to them,
17:08 such as the scriptures of Abraham and Moses, the Psalms,
17:12 and the rest of the Books;
17:14 and the wisdom from what Allah revealed to them,
17:17 which was not a recited book;
17:20 and We gave them a great kingdom,
17:23 which is the kingdom of Solomon.
17:25 “And of them were (some) who believed therein and of them were (some) who turned away from it. Hell is sufficient for (their) burning.” (4:55)
17:28 “And of them were (some) who believed therein and of them were (some) who turned away from it. Hell is sufficient for (their) burning.” (4:55)
17:31 ◁And sufficient is Hell as a blaze.▷
17:36 So among those who were given the Scripture,
17:40 from the Jews of the Children of Israel,
17:42 are those who believed in what We revealed to Muhammad
17:45 (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him),
17:47 and among them are those who turned away from believing in him.
17:50 And sufficient for you, O deniers,
17:53 is the Fire of Hell stoked against you.
17:56 ◁Indeed, those who disbelieve in Our verses—▷
18:00 ◁We will drive them into a Fire.▷
18:03 ◁Every time their skins are roasted through,▷
18:06 ◁We will replace them with other skins▷
18:10 ◁so that they may taste the punishment.▷
18:12 “Lo! Those who disbelieve Our revelations, We shall expose them to the Fire. As often as their skins are consumed We shall exchange them for fresh skins that they may taste the torment. Lo! Allah is ever Mighty, Wise.” (4:56)
18:18 Indeed, those who denied what I revealed
18:22 to My Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him),
18:26 We will thoroughly roast them in the Fire of Hell,
18:29 broiling therein.
18:31 Every time their skins are roasted by it and burned away,
18:34 We will replace them with other skins,
18:37 so that they may experience the agony of the torment.
18:39 Indeed, Allah has always been Almighty in His retribution,
18:43 All-Wise in His ordainment and decree.
18:46 ◁And those who believe and do righteous deeds—▷
18:50 ◁We will admit them to gardens▷
18:56 ◁beneath which rivers flow,▷
19:00 ◁abiding therein forever.▷
19:03 ◁They will have therein purified spouses,▷
19:08 ◁and We will admit them to extending shade.▷
19:14 And those who believe in Allah and His Messenger,
19:17 fulfill the obligatory duties Allah commanded them with,
19:20 and avoid the acts of disobedience Allah made forbidden to them—
19:24 Allah will admit them on the Day of Resurrection into gardens
19:28 beneath which rivers flow,
19:32 remaining therein forever, without end or cessation;
19:36 they shall have spouses pure from all defilement and doubt;
19:40 and We shall admit them into dense, sheltering shade.
19:43 This is the summary from the Tafsir of al-Tabari.
