0:12 Surah ‘Abasa.

0:18 In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

0:22 He frowned and turned away.

0:24 Because the blind man came to him.

0:28 “What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace)” (80:3)

0:32 Or he might be reminded, and the reminder would benefit him.

0:38 He frowned and turned his face away in dislike because the blind man came to him.

0:43 And what would make you know, O Muhammad, perhaps this blind man, at whom you frowned,

0:48 might purify himself from his sins.

0:50 Or he might take heed, and the heed and admonition would benefit him.

0:55 As for him who considers himself self-sufficient,

0:59 to him you give attention.

1:02 “Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace).” (80:7)

1:06 “But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose” (80:8)

1:12 While he is fearful [of Allah].

1:14 From him you are distracted.

1:19 As for the one who considers himself self-sufficient due to his wealth,

1:21 you attend to him, hoping that he might accept Islam.

1:25 And what is it to you if he does not purify himself from his disbelief and accept Islam?

1:30 As for this blind man who came to you striving,

1:33 and he is fearful of Allah and mindful of Him,

1:35 you turn away from him, occupy yourself with others, and neglect him.

1:41 No! Indeed, it is a reminder.

1:45 So whoever wills may remember it.

1:49 In honored sheets,

1:52 exalted and purified,

1:56 in the hands of messengers [angels].

1:59 No!

2:03 The matter is not as you do, O Muhammad,

2:06 in frowning at the one who came to you striving while he is fearful,

2:10 and giving attention to the one who considers himself self-sufficient.

2:13 Indeed, this sermon and this Surah are an admonition and a lesson.

2:17 So whoever among the servants of Allah wills may remember it.

2:20 It means: remember the revelation of Allah and His inspiration.

2:24 This reminder is in honored sheets,

2:28 exalted and purified in the Preserved Tablet,

2:32 which is exalted and purified in the sight of Allah.

2:35 In the hands of angels,

2:37 who act as intermediaries between Allah and His messengers regarding the revelation,

2:41 noble and righteous.

2:44 Cursed is man!

2:47 How disbelieving is he!

2:49 “From what thing doth He create him?” (80:18)

2:52 “From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him,” (80:19)

2:57 Then He makes the path easy for him.

3:00 Then He causes him to die and provides a grave for him.

3:05 “Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life.” (80:22)

3:10 No! He has not yet accomplished what He commanded him.

3:16 The disbelieving man is cursed; what is it that makes him so disbelieving?

3:20 From what thing did the disbelieving man create his Lord when he became arrogant,

3:25 and acted haughtily against obeying his Lord and acknowledging His oneness?

3:30 From a drop of fluid He created him and destined his stages.

3:34 A drop at one time, then a clot, then a lump of flesh,

3:39 until his stages were completed while he was in his mother's womb.

3:43 Then He eased the path for him to exit from his mother's womb.

3:47 Then He took his soul and caused him to die after that,

3:51 and made him one who has a grave.

3:53 Then, when Allah wills, He will resurrect him after his death and bring him back to life.

3:58 No! The matter is not as this disbelieving man says,

4:03 that he has fulfilled the right of Allah upon him regarding his self and his wealth.

4:08 He has not fulfilled the obligations his Lord imposed upon him.

4:14 “Let man consider his food:” (80:24)

4:20 That We poured down water in abundance.

4:26 “Then split the earth in clefts” (80:26)

4:30 And caused to grow therein grain,

4:34 and grapes and fresh vegetation,

4:37 and olives and palm trees,

4:40 and gardens of dense foliage,

4:44 and fruit and fodder.

4:48 Let this disbelieving, denying man look,

4:54 at the oneness of Allah, at his food, how He arranged it.

4:58 We sent down rain from the sky to the earth in abundance,

5:03 and poured it upon it in abundance.

5:06 Then We split the earth and caused it to sprout with vegetation.

5:10 We caused to grow therein the grain of crops,

5:13 which is everything the earth produces of grains,

5:16 such as wheat, barley, and other things.

5:19 And vines of grapes and fresh vegetation.

5:22 The people of Makkah call fodder 'al-qadb'.

5:26 And the olive, from which oil is derived, and palm trees,

5:30 and dense gardens.

5:33 A garden is an orchard that is enclosed.

5:36 And fruit, which is what people eat from the produce of trees,

5:41 and fodder, which is what livestock eat of grass,

5:45 and vegetation. Others said:

5:48 'Al-abb' refers to moist fruits.

5:51 We caused these things to grow, which the children of Adam eat,

5:56 as a provision for you, O people,

5:58 and a benefit that you enjoy and from which you derive utility,

6:02 and which the livestock eat, as a provision for your livestock.

6:07 But when the Deafening Blast comes,

6:16 “On the day when a man fleeth from his brother” (80:34)

6:20 and his mother and his father,

6:24 and his wife and his children.

6:28 “Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others).” (80:37)

6:36 When the Resurrection comes on that day,

6:40 on which a person will flee from his brother,

6:43 and He means by His saying:

6:45 'He will flee from his brother',

6:47 meaning he will flee away from his brother.

6:49 Some of them said:

6:51 He flees from his brother so that he does not see him and what befalls him.

6:55 And his mother and his father,

6:57 and his wife in the world, and his children,

7:00 fearing their demand upon him

7:02 for the liabilities and injustices that existed between him and them.

7:06 For every person among the man and his brother,

7:09 and his mother and his father,

7:11 and the rest of those mentioned in this verse,

7:14 on the Day of Resurrection, there is a matter that will preoccupy him,

7:17 and distract him from the affairs of others.

7:20 Faces, that Day, will be bright,

7:25 laughing, rejoicing at good news.

7:29 “And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them,” (80:40)

7:34 Overlaid with dust.

7:36 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked.

7:42 Faces on that day will be radiant and luminous;

7:46 these are the faces of the believers with whom Allah is pleased.

7:50 Laughing with joy at the bliss and honor Allah has given them,

7:55 rejoicing at what they hope for of increase.

7:59 And faces of the disbelievers on that day will have dust upon them.

8:03 It is mentioned that the animals, which Allah will turn into dust on that day after judgment is passed between them,

8:10 that dust will turn into darkness upon the faces of the people of disbelief.

8:15 And those faces will be covered with 'qatarah', which is dust/darkness.

8:19 Those who have this description on the Day of Resurrection

8:23 are the disbelievers in Allah,

8:25 who were in the world the wicked in their religion,

8:28 not caring what they committed of the disobedience of Allah and what they engaged in of His prohibitions.

8:34 So Allah recompensed them for their evil deeds with what He informed His servants.
